If they do, I couldn't care less, because the UK wont be part of it.

Maybe positively, maybe the EU will be a stronger trading partner as an Empire.
Just so long as we are not part of it :)

Now I feel ancient. It's not that long ago ffs <laugh>

Having experienced life in this country pre and post Thatcher, I can say that it's a harsher, more selfish world we live in now than the one I grew up in. You know that line from The Beatles Sgt Pepper album, " It's getting better all the time"? Well that's how my generation of working class people felt about our futures. Turns out we were wrong.

Put simply, anything that limits, restricts, or denies us unfettered access to the market that accounts for nearly half of our total exports, is a disaster!

Have no ****ing clue to be honest.
All I know is I wouldn't want the UK to be part of some panoptic, generic European Empire.
The different cultures of the world are part of what makes this planet amazing.

I don't believe there will ever be a federal Europe, certainly not in our lifetime. It's an anti-EU scare tactic.

To be honest, you are most likely right, but the fact that there is a desire for it within some quarters of the EU proves to me that its not the place we want to be.
It's like carpooling with a ****phile, sure it saves you both on petrol, but do you really want to be associated with that kind of person?

I don't want or expect a European Empire, but even one did form, I doubt that it would remove the different cultures from the countries.
The US is very, very different from state to state and it doesn't have anything like the history of Europe.
The UK doesn't have this amorphous blob of culture, either. Is there any basis for this idea?

    This <ok>

There's a general trend with globalisation that we are becoming more integrated, but that's in an economic, technological and business sense really. Culturally there will always be differences and that's to be celebrated. You only have to look at the cultural diversity within countries like France, Germany and to a degree England to see that. Also the EU, encompasses one of the most culturally diverse geographical areas on the entire planet.

I don't really feel closing our borders means everything will go to go back to how they were before. Culturally pressure from refugees will only increase.
I subscribe to the James Lovelock view that we are already ****ed.

<laugh> He's a real pessimist eh ? Yep closing our borders is akin to burying our heads in the sand to be honest.

Britain is directly responsible (along with others) for the refugee problem in the first place (Destabilising Iraq and Afganistan, selling arms to every ****er in the middle east etc) So in my opinion we need to take our fair share of the responsibility for the mess we've created.
