Like you I really struggle with Puels press conferences. Not made it to the end of one of them or his subsequent interviews yet. Rely on someone on here summarising him Hope he is more inspirational to the players than he is towards the fans otherwise that would explain the performances to date
I have been wondering exactly the same thing - having heard the first couple around the season opener I have to confess I have not listened to anything since. How Les stayed awake during CP's job interview is beyond my comprehension...
Don't get the obsession people have with Puel to the media. He's speaking a new language first of all. Pochettino was even worse in press conferences but seemed to do alright with players on the training ground....
Its not an obsession - more an observation and not to be taken too seriously either. As for Poch - he spoke English; he simply chose not to in press conferences and its a good idea because it means you have more time to consider your response while waiting for the 'translation'. I would finally add that although he was speaking in another language; Poch did converse with some gusto and passion, unlike our Mr... err... what was his name again...
You can't be serious! It took Poch most of the 2 seasons he was with us to start answering any questions in English and correcting David Salas' translations. At least Claude is trying to speak good English from the start, which Poch didn't bother with at all. As for the players, I would guess that Eric Black does a lot of the translation in the training areas.
If I had to do a press conference in French I can assure you it would be a lot worse than listening to Claude. He has got to think about everything he says and make sure he doesn't put his foot in it by accident. He doesn't know the right words yet so tries to explain himself which results in long answers. I am impressed he's got the guts to do it and not wimp out with a translator.
He said before the last match that he had been impressed with Jay, so obviously happy to keep him. Mentioned it had been tough on Cuco because he had a good chance to move on, but had accepted that he was needed. Always liked Cuco....has a good attitude....hope he has a good season.
I am being unkind. I didn't fall asleep but listened to the whole press conference but got pissed off with the obsession with Wenger and the Lancashire Derby.
Wimp out with a translator? Lol seriously? He has someone sat next to him telling him the hard questions in French anyway, he could have used one to begin with anyway.
