And he's ****ing useless at those too! He can't seem to grasp that 44% is a lot more than 12-13%. <laugh>

So can anyone explain why the UK would need the EU more because of tariffs.

    In layman terms please.

Dont come up with more of them than us, because we dont export to all of them.

This man is an idiot! No, really! I'm convinced it's true.,!

He doesn't seem to understand that just numbers don't matter. That the overall EU economy dwarfs the UK's and that, whilst losing 12-13% of their trade by their refusing to allow the UK to push them around, or dictate terms to them, will hurt a bit. It will hurt the UK many times more!!

You are so right Pete. We mostly dismiss your arguments because they are wrong.

Custard, if you stand to lose 44% of your total export market by trying to get tough with the people you sell this 44% of your exports to, you're liable to **** yourself a lot harder than you **** them!..

    All clear now?...

Just to add a little complexity.
Services aren't protected under WTO arrangements so if we impose tariffs the EU can stop our services exports altogether and force that section of our trade to move to the EU.
We would be screwed before we even got to trying to be tough.

... because the 20% just might not be sustainable, not just for the current tenant but for any ... potentially leaving you with no rental income but property maintenance costs ... I believe this may be termed an 'operating loss' in the world of finance ... protracted periods of such might even lead to closure of business..

We both know we will not lose 44% of our export market, some yes, but they maybe business needs to look beyond the EU and open new markets.
Why wait the time is now. The weak will fall, the strong will prosper.

Would they be the markets where we sell the other 56% of exports already. Or to Atlantis.

Good Lord this man is dense.

Will one of the few remaining posters that he hasn't slapped on ignore please explain to him that he keeps referring to what the EU stands to lose as a collective.

As individual countries within that collective the pain they would suffer do to a potential drop off in exports to the UK due to a tariff system equates to a much smaller percentage of their overall exports than it does ours ffs.

Germany for example circa 5% of it's total exports hit these shores, compared to 44% of ours hitting the EU's shores. It's really not complicated

If a tariff war begins over Davis' Pedantics and stupidity ( the man is an idiot, IMO! ) over free movement, our goods will become far more expensive to European buyers. They will most probably cease to buy them and buy elsewhere.

On top of all that, as Steven as pointed out, services are not included under WTO regs, so the EU could just ban UK services arbitrarily.

We can only hope that May puts the brakes on the fool before lasting damage is done!

So you don't buy into the "everything will be fine and everyone will do as we say because we're British" strategy?

What a great idea, I'm sure there's businesses all over the country who'd not thought of global trade <doh>

Do you really think that they don't endeavour to do this already like?

Imagine being a UK based manufacturer who exports a large proportion of what they produce to the EU market, and you know that the market price for your product won't sustain say a 10% net cost increase in the price of said product as it'd make it uncompetitive in that market. What the **** are you supposed to do?

Just magic up a fresh market of 27 countries to replace the one you're likely to lose?

Just chucking out a meaningless soundbite of the 'weak will fail and the strong prosper' doesn't cover it Custard.

Are we ignoring transportation costs in this discussion?
I recently bought some lights from Germany and the cost to get them delivered was £20. The lights I really wanted were only available in the US and were £30 cheaper but would've cost £70 to get shipped across.
Most of the far reaching countries we trade with tend to be either luxury goods, raw materials we don't have or they have a significantly cheaper workforce to offset the increased cost of shipping.
The idea that we will start selling our cars to Canada, US and Australia seems a bit of a weird one to me.

Are you talking about that little piss poor non profit making site where they were trying to make London a top class city?

WTF did that have to do with the question?
