Pete, I'm not going through it all again.

In percentage terms we need the EU far more than they need us. Of course they want to deal with us, but there's no doubt who has most to lose in a trade war!

 

I agree there is truth in this but really the customs issue is ensuring the quality of goods received is up to the expected standards of your home market.
A quick trawl across the Internet finds examples of people who imported from outside the EU and had their container held by customs for up to 3 weeks and were charged for the privilege. The idea that companies relying on fast, uninterrupted turnaround of goods won't be affected if we try to operate outside the single market is fanciful.

You haven't gone through it once. All you do is keep repeating the UK has more to lose.
So in any "trade war" the EU would pay the UK a lot more in tariffs than the UK pays the EU and that will show that the UK has "lost"?

 

Pete, please tell me which part of 44% of our total exports going to the EU versus 12-13% of theirs coming to us that you are struggling with??

You keep saying that. Why do percentages matter? If I am renting a flat to a tenant what difference does it make to me if the rent is 10% or 20% of their income?

I think that is very wise. People should know the relevance of the statistics they use.

 

I don't think he's capable of communicating any other way!..

 

Perhaps you could explain to him that the stats have been posted several times but he just can't see them!
