yep really and you won't even know. admittedly not all parts of them but certain areas can . The DWP get all sorts of info in these days of electronic data.

Even more areas can demand to see the details of your bank accounts to prove what you declared is true.

Oh HMRC as well certainly can as they administer Tax Credits. Basically my guess is any govt dept that administers a "benefit" that you individuals/groups can claim and is reliant on meeting income / capital requirements will have an investigative dept that will need those powers though some LA's have used the RIPA powers to check on school catchment area claims

actually i had to have some dealings with HMRC recently and was pleasantly surprised how quick and easy the whole process was - particularly as it led to me being nearly £100.00 per month better off <cheers>

Just went online and created an account with them (info gathering and monitoring surely) but it's the quickest and easiest way to get the dollar back, rather than waiting for them to send a payment order out via post ... should have it all by the end of the week direct into bank account ... FREE DOLLAR DOLLAR BILL YO !! YEEEEAAHH BRUV :emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash::emoticon-0164-cash: KERCHING INNIT

there was a huge number as the HMRC was a disaster zone some years ago

PS the boss at the time got moved to another incredibly well paid job as head of another public organisation and was given an OBE (or summat like it) despite serious complaints about her leadership from the relevanthouse of commons commitee

tbh cannot remember exact details ,and Reds might just be a normal correction, but it goes back a few years when it came to light large numbers of people had been wrongly taxed , presumably a tax coding error, and their was an exercise for HMRC to correct though not sure what the position was regarding people who hadn't paid enough tax.

had a quick look round found this

Our tax is normally pretty standard given were quite big company and I haven't moved companies so tax code rarely changes other than when they up the limit.

I got a generic letter from HMRC as well................................................................advising I owed them more tax. They probably took it of me and gave it to you. I demand it back immediately.

If you have not paid me back in 7 days you will hear from my solicitors, Messrs Sue, Grabbit and Run
