I used to love it when every time we went up, many many people would write him off as not being good enough for whichever division we would find ourselves in, only for the Ash to ram it well and truly down their throats by the end of that season. To me there is no better icon to be cast in bronze to stand for eternity outside the stadium. I think BCCs description of Ash is absolutely spot on and worthy of repeating. The best signing in our history, the best captain in our history, the best player in our history.
It doesn't quite feel right to me that despite the fact he is the only player to have captained the same side through all four divisions, the vast majority of non-city fans will have absolutely no idea who he is. That is a monumental achievement in the history of football in this country, yet no one outside of Hull knows it happened. He should be mentioned in the national football museum.
Is he OFFICIALLY the only player to have captained the same team in all four divisions, or just 'thought to be'?
