Translink has banned staff from wearing wristbands in support of soldiers serving in Afghanistan - even though they have not had any complaints from the public. The transport company which runs NI Railways, Ulsterbus and Metro services said the move is designed to create a "neutral" working environment. However, unionists have slammed the decision as political correctness gone mad. TUV MLA Jim Allister who raised the issue during a recent meeting with Translink chiefs has vowed to contest the controversial ban. "This issue is particularly strong in Ballymena because there are so many young men and women who have served with the armed forces," he said. "I certainly do not intend to let this matter rest. It is preposterous." Silicone wristbands in support of the military are sold for around £2 from Territorial Army centres, Royal British Legion branches and from the regimental headquarters. A Translink spokeswoman said: "We seek to create a neutral working environment in which all our employees can feel at ease. In line with company policies and guidance from the Equality Commission, the only badges which may be worn at work are company ID, a customer service badge or a trade union badge as appropriate." I had a 25 year hunger strike wristband (anniversary the hunger strike wasn't that long) had an interview and the asian guy interviewing me thought it was anti-racist band Got me the job.
Jim Allister, horsed in the elections by baby doc by a 2/3rds (ish)majority. The one time the nationalist community were happy to see a Paisley get such a resounding victory. The man is a clown.
lest we forget the last 2 wars were illegal. All about oil and resources to make the rich even richer Was a time a soldier was a warrior, fighting for his country, honour etc now they are pawns to make the rich richer
the funniest thing about PC is that it is usually white people who decide what is PC or not I was in a meeting once when an asian bloke lost it after being told he was not to use the word 'black bin bag'. He also went ballistic to being called ETHNIC (minority). As ethnic means 'HEATHEN' or did.
The white folk who do that are the racist ones I think. I had a boss who used to go on like that even though the whole team was white He never had black coffee or white tea is was always coffee without milk or tea with milk
I know. I worked in the public sector most of my life and it was usually all white 'focus groups' who came up with the suggestions for what was PC and what was not I remember getting in trouble for saying i was going to a 'brainstorming' session as this could offend people with epilepsy. Also remember this group came up with the idea of having a badge or wristband etc for deaf people. to identify them as deaf. The deaf people went ballistic as this drew attention to them and made them targets for getting mugged. As a mugger could sneak up knowing they were deaf due to their badge/band etc
