This. Spain and Germany have 5 or 10 times as many top level coaches as England.
Noble's vaguely debatable, but Drinkwater's just stupid.
He's a very different player to both of them, but Antonio got picked before those two. <doh>

Not only that but look at the average price difference. Particuarly with Germany.

That's true of football in general in the two countries.
Dortmund fans protested recently when Stuttgart charged them £15 for standing and £30 for seats.

Wolfsburg have season tickets priced at €130.

I can't remember the figures exactly but I think the average cost of course is roughly a few hundred quid in Germany, about a grand in Spain and 5 large here!! Helps explain the lack of numbers.

The PL makes so much money, probably part of the problem as they have conflicting interests to the FA.

The only way it would change would be to give the national side priority, as they do in RFU. The players are centrally contracted and the national side takes precedence over the clubs.

Unfortunately, from England's point of view, it ain't gonna happen. The Premiership is too powerful!

Nor should it, a ludicrous suggestion!
How would England pay the players the same wages as the clubs, and even if the clubs were still paying the players, why would the PL clubs pay the wages of someone who was contractually obligated to another employer? Would you do that?
    How would that effect transfers?

They can't, which is why it won't work. The Prem has now become a behemoth that controls English football by dint of its financial muscle.

The question was how would it be made to work. So long as the clubs have first call on the players, it never will.

    Simple as...

The best way would be for PL players to play for, and paid by their clubs.......
    and England......wait for it.......

And half the Welsh team are championship players, all the iclandic team are playing in 2bd tier countries across Europe...

no ones expecting us to be Germany and Spain winning every tournament, but we should be able to play some decent exciting football.

We pick safe players who will keep the ball between midfield and defence rather than players that will take a risk and try beat a man.

Get Barkley, Alli, Rashford, Sterling, heck even Townsend or Ox into squad as well. Some pace and movement, players not afraid to run at a man

You're on the right track, IMO. It's pretty much what Woodward did with the England RFU side back in 1997.

He picked a load of youngsters - one of whom was Jonny Wilkinson - he coached them, accepted hey would take a few kickings in their learning process ( they lost one game 76-0 to Aussie! ). But he kept faith and 5-6 years later those youngsters won the World Cup - in Australia.

Now that's gonna be far more difficult to replicate in football nowadays, but yeah why the **** not?

Pick all the top youngsters, keep them together and make them a team. Accept that you'll get smashed as you're learning, but if you've got the right players and the right coach, you'll get there.

What I don't think helps us or any team is that we play 16 qualifier, 14 of which are against dross and 1 against a half decent team.. So first time we come up against a really decent team were stuck as we've only played them in friendlies. Not sure how you get round that though... Maybe have 2 level tournament (like CL and EL). Top 20 ranked teams go into 1 tournament, next X ranked teams go into other. Means teams like Ireland, Sweden etc that are probably not going to win Euros or WC may have a chance to win something and they play teams at a similar level constantly.

Rather than watch us play 16 games and win easily 2 or 3 nil against teams like Lithuania and Malta with the saw players, get a group of young players who might actually lose a game or two but will actually be exciting.

Sam wanted Roy to pick Defoe. Now he is in charge (well in name only it seems) he doesnt pick him.

Good for Sunderland him not getting picked. But he could still do a job for England.

... playing weak teams in qualifiers wouldn't appear to adversely affect the tournament performances of teams from the other major European countries... our problem is that we seldom pick the best team but persist in picking reputations or on a 'big club' bias ... Rooney's 'free role' epitomizes all that is holding back the development of an England 'team' ...

Parents have no input in academies already, you sit and watch. There's no coaching from the sidelines.

Not really on about the academies as such on about lower with parents on the touchline shouting 'get rid of it!!' Etc. Also kids might feel under pressure to 'win' cos Dads watching.
