Phelan may want more time bedding people in before they start for the team, that could easily be the actual reason he doesn't start a player or two.
Only change I would consider is Mbokani for Abel. Depends on how tired Abel is after his international games plus travelling
Those who want wholesale changes straight away aren't considering the damage it could cause to team spirit. You don't build up player's confidence by telling them they're playing like heroes and then kick them in the bollocks without consequences. Too many new faces coming in together also reduces the ability for the team to gel and maintain the understanding that has already been developed. And finally you don't want new players getting the idea they can walk straight into the team. It's much healthier to send them the message that they have to fight for the place.
I expect that they would expect them to play. I didn't say he shouldn't play. I said he shouldn't start on Saturday because it would be an appalling way to treat the XI who have played the first 3 games and would send a terrible message.
We just lost our last game after being thoroughly outplayed over 90 minutes. You don't stick with a losing team. Particularly not now there's better options which are also a better fit in certain positions.
Exactly. If we'd signed Chris Smalling, you'd drop Davies and play Smalling in a heartbeat. Play your best players. Simple as. No place for sentiment
I know what you're saying but in the world of football these feelings don't apply! Like has been said it was easy for MP before! But it's a different story now he's got more players to pick from! I think he'll play mason.
Firstly Burnley is a massive game and it could be a huge step towards survival with a win. Can't see the formation changing that's for sure, it's worked a treat. Would be baffled if we went 2 up top, we still need options from the bench. Dio has to start, he's scored 3 in 4, albeit 2 were against Exeter but his confidence should be sky high. My only change would be Mason for Meyler, it's a tad harsh on Meyler but Mason's a far better player and with Meyler's passing a mistake never seems far away. Upfront will depend on how Abel is. Mbokani will have been training all week so it depends what shape he's in too.
Actually, most the internationals are done now so Phelan will have the best part of the week to work with the players. The Scot and Norway lads should be back shortly, if they aren't already. It's only Abel who won't be back until Friday. I just can't see him starting on that basis.
My team also but with Snodgrass in place of Henriksen who would replace Weir on the bench. Looks like a very strong team with lots of attacking potential...2-1 to City.
If Phelan can give us a win against those pesky clarets then it's signed sealed and delivered for me. I know we've beaten them recent times but to me they're still one of our bogey teams. I also would keep Phelan anyways but I think now with the new players and the international break, I need one more good showing to be convinced fully that it wasn't a fluke.
Only idiots. We have no one who can score goals like these or the ones in our last Pl season that he banged in.
