So we leave the party and go home and say we'll see them again next year but everybody is saying: "Come back!"

So then respect our wish to produce a plan when it suits us and keep it quiet until we start negotiations. It's obvious.

That's the fundamental problem with the Little Englanders. They live with a mindset that we're British, we had an empire, we won the war, everyone will do what we tell them to do etc. The reality is Britain simply doesn't have that much power and influence anymore which is why Japan and the US had no qualms about politely placing Britain in a corner yesterday. When it comes to trade negotiations I suspect India will enjoy toying with its former "master".

Judging by the greeting May got yesterday, it's more like "we'll call you".

I think in the Us's case it was because they will no longer have a seat at the EU table with the UK gone.

Given the Tories made the decision to give the country a referendum, do you not think it would have been prudent if they had drawn up a plan to provide for the contingency of a Leave vote, at some point between announcing the referendum and the result like?

There was zero planning done before the vote, the civil servants had a blank piece of paper. It was piss poor, and it's now been over 2 months since the result and the only thing they've produced is a meaningless soundbite "Brexit means Brexit".

I'm sure that they would like to see us rejoin their party, as would many of us, but it will be on their terms - not ours!...

We will only deal with the EU as far as it suits us. Only some of us want to be told what to do by the EU. Plenty of us are independent. I agree that there are plenty of people who prefer to have a boss and get told what to do every day. It suits their personality.

They're all looking at the Brits and thinking what are you doing here?

They know we need a free trade deal, they also know what the pre-requisites will be for that to happen, as it's never been secret.

So the entire globe is looking at us and wondering what the actual **** we're going to end up 'gaining' from this move. Same as half the populous here.

You're very proud that you're self employed aren't you Pete <laugh>

When you were growing up in your Hull slum was it your dream to set up an HMO slum in one of the ****test parts of south London and do a bit of part time book keeping out of a garage?

Is free trade worth having for freedom of movement? Yes, obviously, but will Pete and the gang be happy with that?

I wouldn't be so sure about that.

This is one of the worst cases of 'Empire syndrome' I've encountered since my childhood.
