Fair result in the end, two good sides played in good spirit.. We'll get gubbed in the ODIs though, we're about 10 years behind in this form of cricket, we keep thinking that 250 is a good total!
we will have buttler and bairstow... not sure about stokes though.... england odi is still very hit and miss. roy and hales should enjoy it though...
vince has to be gone. hales has quite a job on his hands to develop the techniques needed to play test cricket. Its got to the point that the technique to basically slash at the white ball in ODI and the proper red ball technique are so diametrically opposite it might as well be baseball and lacrosse. In many ways bowlers in ODI are not wicket takers they are machines on line and length with death bolwers being simply focused on making it hard to whack for 6... In this context players going out and hacking and slashing with all these fancy shots against restricted fields look great then step into a test arena and get found out as an opponent has all day to work you over, move the field round where it likes and find your weakness. Once pakistan looked at ballance they could push him round and just take him out within 20 runs every time. same for vince. he did k v spin but any fast stuff and he was basically incapable of sticking around. Bairstow was fount out by spin but could adjust himself which shows he's got a bit about him. Hales in fiarness was trying to adjust but pakistan were too good.
Missed it all today, sounds like could get a whole highlights show just from hales knock. WR score... Cant complain. Our team when they click can beat anyone and are best in the world. Just need to find that consistency. If 3-4 of the batters perform well then 300 minimum is always on the cards.
They slaughtered the spin and just never let up. At one point it was 100 dot balls, 100 singles in 380? They tonked pakistan seriously.
Must say paksistan did take a record yesterday. record score for 11th man? it was some game to watch. I only caught tail end of root and then buttler and morgan but it was.. .well... short boundaries and an absolute tonking.
thats 1990s scoring. It seems to me a lot of things are happening in ODI to force scores. At this point people don't chase wickets so its run control bowling. the boundaries seem small and the hitting seems very hard. We absolutely SMASHED the ball. Unfortunately for you there was a few Pakistani players not really trying. The fielding was frankly atrocious and buttler should have been caught twice. England just have really long batting in ODI but roy hales, root, morgan buttler are all smashing odi batsmen followed up by stokes when fit woakes pluncket, alli... Its just someone is going to score so they can all play with freedom. as an opener knowing you can just go a run a ball knowing theres 2 runs a ball men coming behind means you can really be agressive form the off. Once pakistan lost an early wicket iit was game over even if the total was 300 never mind 400+
I see pakistan hit 247 in 50 overs. <half what england are targetting next. I was looking down the figures and the first 6/7 lads.. they could have been playing test cricket with those strike rates... they looked like englands test strike rates. England are not going to hang about here... should be fun. buttler is out so bairstow is in... one hammer for another.
Roy, Hales, Root, Morgan all failing today. That's what happens the way they play, go big and get 400 one day, get out cheaply next. Far better than a safe and getting a safe 270 though (although chasing 250 don't need to go out the blocks too fast)
in fairness pakistan bowling as been really really good. the guy got 2 warnings but has been really dangerous.
