.... can you imagine what Germany, France, Spain et al would have done to that Slovakia team in similar circumstances? . .

  2. It could be Stones. Rose. Or Stones - Rose. Or Stones/Rose. Or Stones' Rose. And possibly a number of other alternatives, depending on the grammatical context.

Sorry for pulling you up on this, Pluggy, but since you were trying to be unduly smart about it, I thought I would.

  3. That is, undoubtedly, the reason why you aren't England manager, Pixie.

Drinkwater had a brilliant season last year and has started this one really well too. If a player in form from the team who won the league can't get in the England team, then something is wrong with the selection. Same for Mark Noble, he had a really good season last year, but has been completely overlooked. Also, why play Dier and Henderson together in the team ?

Agree. Rose is ok, but defensively is so poor. He had 1 bit of defending to do today and he dawdled on the ball and gave them their only chance of the game.

He's better going forward than Bertrand but is always prone to a lapse in concentration.

Henderson and Dier is pointless as a midfield in the qualifiers. These are games in which teams sit back England have 70% possession and are barely troubled at the back.

Both decent players but neither are going to create that golden chance to win you a game.

    Hart
    Clyne Smalling Stones Bertrand
    Dier Barkley
    Lallana Sterling
    Sturridge Kane

After the game, Allardyce said it is "not for me to say where to play Wayne Rooney", adding that "he did play a little deeper than I thought he'd play today".

What ****ing hope do we have when this fat useless twat doesn't understand that it's his job to tell people where to play! <doh>

I agree with this. Us Spurs boys have talked many times about Rose and his propensity to fall asleep defending. Getting pulled way out of position is another of his specialities!

It's a trade off. He's a definite threat going forward but can give you nightmares when you're on the back foot....

Hendo was a machine. He could have had 3 assists but for Sterlings poor control.

    Lallana was our only threat.

Poor game, except from the Liverpool boys.

Sam Allardyce says it is "not for me to say where to play Wayne Rooney" after his England reign started with a narrow World Cup qualifying win in Slovakia.

England struggled to break 10-man Slovakia's resistance before Adam Lallana secured a 1-0 victory seconds from the final whistle.

Captain Rooney, winning his 116th cap, played largely in a deep midfield role.

"Wayne played wherever he wanted to. I can't stop Wayne playing there," said Allardyce.

Rooney, 30, is now his country's most capped outfield player and is just nine more games away from equalling Peter Shilton's record of 125 England appearances.

Allardyce added: "I think that he holds a lot more experience at international football than me as an international manager.

"Using his experience with a team, and playing as a team member, it's not for me to say where he's going to play.

"It's up to me to ask whether he's doing well in that position, and contributing.

"I must admit, he did play a little deeper than I thought he'd play today, but I was pleased with his performance."

Allardyce was critical of England's finishing in Trnava and admitted he was getting "very concerned" before Lallana's goal after Martin Skrtel had been sent off for the hosts.

"Slovakia just parked the bus. In fact they parked a double decker, but we are going to have to be more clinical," added Allardyce, who took over from Roy Hodgson in July.

"We've got Theo Walcott scoring for Arsenal and Adam Lallana scoring for Liverpool. Harry Kane hasn't got one today so he is a bit slow off the mark while we know Daniel Sturridge can score. Wayne Rooney can score.

"Those players have to pop up and be a little bit more clinical in front of goal and make life a little bit easier for us."

How the **** did he get the job?

Big Sam reckons he cannot tell Rooney where to play, as it is not his place.

I think you will find that you can Sammy boy, its kinda your job.
If its not the managers place to workout the tactics, formation and positions, then who the hells job is it?
