I was just adding up the figures of this years trading in the transfer market and working on this basis :- OUT CW £ 8 mill-ish IN MC £ 1.5 mill-ish JET £ 2 mill-ish (worst case scenario if we get promoted and he plays for england ect) AC £ 1 mill-ish (compensation to tranmere, possible worst amount) Everyone else on a free transfer, leaves PJ with about £ 3.5 million Plus any transfer budget which I assume he would of had anyway.....SURELY he can get a decent CB with that kind of money.
The owner is allowed to hold a little back in my opinion. He's backed the last two managers who've pissed money up against a wall and rightly ME is taking stock and asking PJ to do things with a little more forethought. Hence why we have had so many links this summer as I imagine he is surveying every possible option and not being held to ransom by other clubs. Yes we have money but we have spent an absolute fortune in the last three years on fees and wages and the Owner is quite right to try to reign that in a little
You also have to think that some of these players (including the free oness) will be on high wages, so money has to spent on that. Also I agree with KOPR that ME has thrown alot of money at RK and JM, which has been wasted, so he probably would like to recoup some of that...altough if he is holding for himself, he could take the risk in trusting PJ and putting a little more money in and getting back £40 million (if we get promoted). Then that covers the cost of the last 3 years...
Good point KOPR, and if PJs signings prove to be good ones Im sure he will have earned MEs trust that money isnt just thrown away on mediocre players and extra funds will be available.
