Swansea City v. Chelsea Sunday 11 September 2016 Kick off 16:00 Liberty Stadium Following 2 successive defeats in the Premier League, Swansea's next fixture is a home match against former champions Chelsea. New Manager Antonio Conte has overseen as impressive start by the Blues having won each of their opening 3 PL games, most recently a 3-0 victory over Burnley. Chelsea made perhaps the most surprising signing on transfer deadline day with the re-signing of former player David Luiz. The 29-year-old Brazilian defender left the Blues for Paris Saint-Germain two years ago in a deal reported to be worth £50m, but he's back at the Bridge after Antonio Conte made a Deadline Day swoop for the South American stopper. The same day, Conte also signed Marcos Alonso from Fiorentina. Meantime, the Swans had a "quiet" Deadline Day - although suffered the embarrassment of posting online the signing of Enner Valencia after the player had signed for Everton ! Swansea and Chelsea have played each other on 31 occasions, with the Swans winning 7, Chelsea 14, and 10 draws. Last season, the Swans won the corresponding fixture 1-0 thanks to a 25th minute goal from Gylfi Siggurdsson. How the Swans' fan would relish a repeat this time around. Swansea will hope that record signing Borja Baston will be available after injury to make his debut - whilst Chelsea fans will be hoping to see Luiz make his second debut for the Blues. Whilst Chelsea will obviously be favourites, I have a sneaky feeling that the match will end 1-1.
Since we have been in the Pl, I have gone into games thinking yeh we might get beat but, you never know it might be our day and we could nick something, I am looking at our up coming games and just hoping we do not get annihilated by the teams we play and will put our players heads down that there is no return from it. But, this game scares me and just don't want to think about how bad and damaging it could be for our team.
What team we put out will be a conundrum but I don't think we'll get slaughtered because I've always had a cool head and am not prone to hysteria.. I think we can get something out of any game.
I just hope we have used this international break well and made a few changes that is so obvious that we have to make after our last 3 poor games...I wont mind losing against one of the title contenders if we have shown some determination and grit and run Chelsea close....
Surely it's not hysteria when you concede 2 goals at home to a Hull side that is decimated with injuries?
The reaction of the small minority of the 19,000 fans that post on here is bordering on hysteria. After all we are only three games in with virtually all the dead wood moved out and potentially decent replacements brought in. A declining Ash has gone with a young ambitious replacement brought in, Ayew, who didn't fit our style has been replaced by a striker who has a reputation as a goal poacher, which we were all crying our for. Gomis has been replaced by a player of higher quality, who isn't a natural goalscorer but has the attribute of bringing other players in to the game but hasn't had the time to settle in to our team yet. In addition some of our younger players are showing signs that they can challenge for the first team. People shouldn't take notice of journalists whose only purpose is to sensationalise things so they can justify their existence to their editors.
Don't be confused by concerned and hysteria.......Football is not life or death and really unimportant at the end of the day...We just want our team to do well and if it dont then it dont.....I will never lose any sleep over any sport as there are more important things to get hysteria about happening in the world....
I think we will get a point out of this game as a contribution to my prediction of 4 points from the next 5 games. So I will join Taff in a 1-1
2-1 to Chelsea if we have learned by our errors and lack lustre approach to the game and if not then a 5-0 hammering...
I hope you are right and love the optimism, but can I really ask you what have you seen in the last 3 games that makes you think we can et something, all I have seen is a team with no shape, no guidance, no heart and completely leaderless. Who look like they could concede everytime a side attacks us and we are playing a side who expect to win the league. I do get that we do tend to lift our game in years gone by against the better sides. All I can see is that performance against Chelsea when they destroyed us by 5 at home and I worry how our 2 CB will Costa and just not get bullied by him.
