Let's hope you're right mate. I still feel Bendtner was a good option, he really does retain the ball well, indeed half the issue we had when he was here was that he spent too much time outside the danger zone. He's a big lad with good control. I still wonder if we might look as we are still way short up top. I just hope that we can keep what we have for as there is a genuinely decent first 13 or so in there, if Gooch and Asoro can find their feet we might just make it to January unscathed. A win against Everton wouldn't half set us up, we need to take that game by the throat cos if we don't they have players that can hurt us.
I see him as just a bit more beef up front who can take some of the attention away from Defoe and would not be surprised if we gave a 3-5-2 formation a go. Wing backs, nippy forwards, both need some muscle to prise space in the box so even if he just provides a bit of bash he i doing a job for the team.
I would have gone for Bendtner all day long mate. Managers have a tenancy to go with what they know though don't they? They know what they're getting so there's less risk. I think we can take Everton like. Gooch, Watmore and Januzij are my worry. If Januzij doesn't improve massively I can't see how we can play both Gooch and Watmore. We need the better and more experienced players to pick up a lot of the weight around the youngsters. Januzij has flattered to deceive so far off the back of a couple mazy runs imo. Think we've got a lot of potential mate I agree, but until Januzij improves we need to play Khazri on the pitch with him and drop Gooch or Watmore. My preference would be Watmore Benched.
I agree, Watmore is still a little bit excitable the best thing would be for him to go to a decent Championship side on loan till January, if we had the heads. Either of Catts or Kirch back would be massive.
This conversation has moved on a bit which is why I have not replied to any one post. I think nads understands where I am coming from. Vic gives us options. My view is he won't be in the first 11, that does not mean he won't be useful. On the coaching aspect, well we will have to agree to disagree. While you have every right to an opinion just like I have, neither of us has the knowledge of a pro coach. For a start they see the players train and get all the data from those sessions., but I digress.
Didn't realise he came through the youth system at Everton so Moyes is well aware of what he has to offer. Good enough for me on a short term signing.
didn't figure that one out. i wonder if moyes had lined him up all along, in anticipation of not being able to get another 'big lad' in up front, based on the limited choice-for-cost quandrum of the late transfer window.
A very good point mate. Moyes will have looked at the FA/Allardyce thing, known Short would be calling and looked at our attacking options. I'd bet he was on the phone to Anichebe before Allardyce even left.
Don't see why he wasn't training with Sunderland if he was gonna be a possibility signing. Instead he's been training on his own.
Ggos point. what i mean is Moyes knows he is available, maybe even told him to there's a chance they'll give him an offer ( if moyes couldn't get his other targets in, at the right price e.g. naismith and others). he'd already made it clear we weren't in the 20 million plus league for a striker. so i'm not sure what elsehe could have got within budget. i'm sure others will have plenty examples of who we could have got..
He's probably given the lad a heads up that he's his plan b option, or C, or T, but it'd have probably been beneficial to have him in working with your lads like Pienaar was, even if he was gonna be dispatched like N'Zogbia was.
I think and hope we will already be working on January targets, Moyes own targets. I know this is the perennial hope and optimism that you have to learn to have as a Sunderland fan, but I do see that Moyes had 5-6 weeks to select, target and try and push through in a tough window post Euros and with the insane fees, I'm hoping we have 3 or 4 already being grafted ready for January. The more I look at the said, the more I believe we do have enough to hover around 12-15th until January and a second half improvement could still see a confortable season. We have some genuine quality that many other teams fans will underrate, and hopefully many other teams. People don't see the Catts we do, don't think about Kirch, don't realise how much of a monster Kone is. Everyone else thinks we are 'Jermaine Defoe FC' and that can be turned in our favour.
You are noticeable by your absence on the other thread My only worry is how limited we look upfront. Borini out on a long term injury, many agree that Watmore isn't ready yet and needs a loan deal to mature into a better all round footballer, Khazri not up to scratch. Januzaj looking off the pace. We have scored in every game, but take Defoe out of the team and something happens to Januzaj or Khazri, then that will be one hell of an uphill battle. Our midfield will be solid enough when either or both, Cattermole and Kirchhoff return to the team. Our defence is our strong point and they will have to carry us until January. The first team is good enough to get us comfortable in the league. Two or three injuries/suspensions, though, and we could be right in the ****.
Which thread mate? This one seemed most active? And agree entirely, we are hoping and nursing and Defoe must be protected and rested through to January.
Seems to me Moyes has recognised the need for this type of player for a while. Zog got chased because he wasn`t good enough and Moyes has known this Anchovy lad for long enough to know what he can do. Whether he thinks of him as a definite improvement or the best of what was left remains to be seen. I`ll let him get his boots on before I decide.
Absolutely, he gets time to prove himself. I remember him being a fair handful at times but often being anonymous, but as an option on a free there's logic to it, he is completely different to Defoe and that is only a good thing. Again, I'd still offer Bedtner a deal with conditions, there's a player in Bendtner, and he's only 28.
