Good avoidance of the point Of course he knows the players and their ability (or lack of) but he has had to gather players together who can gel in the space of a week so they have a chance of getting a good result in a WC qualifier. If he picked a bunch of kids and players who were in form last season (3 games this season don't count as form) and they played like a bunch of strangers (which they would be) and got beat I could imagine you would be among the first to complain.
Who are the kids we should be giving a chance to? That's one of those England buzz phrases that you see all the time on forums but who are we talking about? The current England side already is pretty young. Which young players are missing out who've performed well? Young players who've been brought in in the last few years include Kane, Sterling, Wilshere, Henderson. Yet people moan about all of those. They're only picked because they play for big clubs etc. So who should he pick? They have to he young, not play for a big club and not have played for England before. If an England manager picks a team along those lines only then will be not a dinosaur or an FA yes man.
I don't like it in other sports, either, but football is my main focus. Not too bothered about assistants, but the senior manager should be truely representative for me. I stopped watching England under the foreigners; it's just not for me.
I asked for youth I also asked for in form players .. Davies deserves at least a place in the squad .. Drinkwater deserves a starting role certainly above Henderson.. Deli Ali is probably the most gifted youngster we have yet no place in the team .. and as for the comment the kids ain't good enough .. what a crock of **** that is .. they will never be good enough if you don't pick them and give them some trust
Seems strange, yet normal, that posters are attacking Alladyce before his team has shown its worth. It really is worth remembering this game is a qualifier and not a meaningless friendly where he can experiment more freely. Sam Alladyce being told what players to work with by the FA is one step away from a X-Files plot.
No one is suggesting that Allerdyce is being forced to play certain players .. but it takes a brave manager to make such decisions and start us in a new direction .. the German's did it after we beat them in their worst tournament and now look at them
Aye, I read this: Sure there was something else, but can't find it now, but you do seem to be right ...
They did and that`s what we had the opportunity to do or at least try, but it seemed the FA are dictated to by the powers that be at the Premier League.
The England players who went to the Euros and will be playing tonight can do better. They're better than the results they've had. We have to hope that Alladyce can do with them what Phelan's done with our players. It's a mentality thing, not an ability thing. It's also a case of picking the right players for the right positions and getting them doing what they're good at. Kane should not be taking corners ffs.
Dean Saunders commented a couple of days ago that what Allardyce does really well is get the players to buy in to the system, he uses a simple system and he has a Plan B & a Plan C, he coaches the basics & everyone knows where they are. Said it before & I'll say it again - Drinkwater not going to the Euros as a disgrace - PL champion, in form, played every game for Lesta & Wilshire, who couldn't complete 60 mins and now plays for Bournemouth gets his place.. what sort of message does this send to players at 'lesser clubs'? Davies deserves a shout too
Davies is having a purple patch now but he's had them before. He's gone up a notch but it's doubtful it's permanent.
Nice of you to notice my absence. I've just been a bit busy with other things (good things) and fancied a break from the forum for a bit - the Allams were pissing me off so much, and we'd all pretty much expressed our own views on that 100-odd times already. There wasn't much more to be said about them. Anyway, onwards and upwards, brave new world and all that. As for England, is anyone else watching the U20s against Brazil right now? Some lads with big reputations are getting horribly found out. I couldn't agree more with those pointing out that Allardyce would never put up with being told who to pick. Similarly, the notion that he's another one who's blindly picking those from big clubs is insulting to him.
An interesting part of playing FIFA is if you choose to be England manager and start by thinking that you're going to choose a squad that's radically different in some way to the current set-up. Then you realise how few top quality players we have...
City know all about Slovakia away.. fantastic beer, €1.50 a pint.. Huddlestone missed pen.. more beer.. ahh
