The 3 second rule - requires you're not allowed 'in the paint' [restricted area in front of basket] for more than 3 seconds. Referee [may] hold his hand up and count 1,2,3 then blows the whistle, awards the ball to the opposition. The 5 second rule - an offensive player must not stay stationery with the ball for longer than 5 seconds he/she has to pass, shoot or dribble or the ball goes to the opposition, again the ref counts it silently.

Am I right in thinking a rule was introduced (and implemented for about a month), whereby goal keepers could only take so many steps with the ball in their hands or did I dream it?

Meant they could keep hold of the ball as long as they liked, they just couldn't move too far

Never saw the point in this rule at all and like I said, only remember anyone taking any notice for a very short time.

Goalies used to be able to do pretty much what they liked. They could hold the ball as long as they liked, they could take as many steps as they liked but in doing so, had to bounce the ball or throw it in the air as they went. They could put the ball down, dribble it, pick it back up ........

The 4 step rule was introduced to stop the goalie time wasting. This was followed by the no back pass rule.

I just think the point is to force a get on with it scenario so i really dont know why keepets get to dive on the ball and roll about and generally mess about till everyone is 20 yards up the pitch.

Mingolet got book that time for 22 full seconds holding on.. i think he and many other keepers like krul etc are always breaking the rule.

I laugh when i see mingolet race out to the edge of our box taking 10/12 step then stop dead every time and hold it. He hardly ever passes the ball ever.

worst one for me is the lack of action when WWE starts in the pen area at a corner, start booking, the holders, grabbers and shirt pullers, they will learn soon enough. Another is the writhing around in agony when hardly touched, straight RED for me

Because football is the only sport which allows professional referees to simply choose not to apply rules without any punishment

That's usually nothing to do with applying the rules correctly and mostly just about PR, crowd stuff etc. as if it's acceptable for the ref to change the rules on the day if he thinks the home crowd aren't happy

If only ex-refs(officials)are allowed to 'evaluate' match referees and linesmen why ain't it only ex-footballers running the fa on football related matters?

Of the 3 FA men that recently appointed Fat Sam as England coach only one was a former player, yet they had to ask the likes of Rio and even Fergie the Scot who they thought was the best option from the candidates on the list.

They get mega-wages for doing next to nothing(meaningful)

    ****ing joke.<grr>
