Well well well. Quite a few of us have been adamant there's some form of corruption among officials. Standards can't get that low through incompetence alone. Many a mag and opposing fan have mocked me(and others) for airing my thoughts on Refs. Turns out they can't see beyond the ends of their nose.

    Mark Halsey refereeing in 2011
Former Premier League ref Mark Halsey has claimed he was told by the refereeing body to say he had not seen incidents in matches.

55-year-old Halsey, who retired at the end of the 2012-13 season, made the shocking comments in a debate over Sergio Aguero's appeal against a three-match ban that will rule him out of the Manchester derby.

Manchester City were understood to be appealing the ban because TV images showed referee Andre Marriner was close to the incident and appeared to be looking clearly at Aguero's tussle with West Ham defender Winston Reid.

Premier League rules state no retrospective action can be taken if the incident was seen by the official at the time.

But Halsey, in conversation on Twitter, made the shocking claim he had been told by PGMOL - the organising body for elite referees in England - to say he hadn't seen incidents that he had actually witnessed.

"I have been in that situation," he wrote, "when I have seen an incident and been told to say I haven't seen it."

When quizzed further on who had pressurised him, Halsey revealed: "To be fair to the FA... it's not them.

"It comes from within the PGMOL."

Halsey's alarming claims, which may have helped sway the results of retrospective appeals, should cause concern throughout football.

Mark is that not corrupt!! I'd like to know who told you to say that!!! https://twitter.com/refereehalsey/status/771628305954975744 …

Gary Neville, the former Manchester United defender and Valencia boss, tweeted: "Is that not corrupt?

"Mark, I'd like to know who told you to say that!

"@FA and @premierleague think you have a major issue on your hands!"

"I've spoken with Mark. Verified the statement. Huge problem!!!"

Mirror Sport has contacted the PGMOL for comment on the accusations.

Ref's are without a doubt of clueless twats at best and maybe crooked ****s at worst.

Only problem I have with regards to people talking about refs is when they speak like we're public enemy number one and that ref's are out to relegate us. Just cringeworthy sour grapes.

Personally I'm more beefy with general standards. But these accusation surgest they could have a point. Who knows which teams they have it in for? If there's favorites getting protection it stands to reason there could be teams who are disliked being made to suffer. Same applies to players.

So its not the FA....a little sample then..Our centre half Paul Butler
appeals a red card and gets an extra match ban for frivolous appeal.
Fast forward to City's Aguro, same sort of appeal no extra game ban. Big club bias you bet cha.
This isn't the only appeal from a top club that has resulted in no extra penalty.

WOW. This is the start of something absolutely huge. Make no mistake, English football is going to be well and truly in the spotlight now.

Still don't believe for a second referees are biased against Sunderland

If this Mark Halsey admission is true

Imagine someone throws an elbow (or another red card offence) which the ref see's but does not penalise with a card. The tv shows it from all angles and the ref is made to look totally inept by not penalising him. His only excuse is he didn't see it as suggested by the organisation that is here to ensure reffeering standards are maintained - this protects the ref (even if there is corruption involved or not) and the organisation

It's not the FA from Halsey's stand point no. But he can't know what's going on behind the scenes. One of the top jobs within the organisation is a FA held position so the FA have members working actively within the organisation. The top man is Mike Riley and he's one of the dodgiest bias ****ers to take charge of a football match who was vigorously protected by the FA against complaints which in turn led to the rule preventing Managers commenting on refereeing decisions(an FA Rule). I don't doubt this goes back to the FA. They're about as trust worthy as FIFA.

He's basically just blew the FA to pieces. He's stated there's certain bias towards clubs from the FA. It was also included in the, rife with spot fixing, comment.

Gary Neville, the former England and Manchester United defender, was among those immediately alarmed by the comments, responding: “Is that not corrupt?”

Rejecting Halsey’s allegation, The PGMOL said: “Match officials submit their reports, including critical incidents, directly to the FA. Match officials ensure that their reports are a full and accurate description of the incident. There is no pressure from the PGMOL to include or omit anything.”

    Roger,
The list of this sort of incidents against Sunderland is endless, many many times these moans or complaints have been written off by both our fans and outsiders as unfounded conspiracy theories against our club.

Well perhaps, just perhaps our theorist's were not far from the truth, and I'm sure other perceived 'smaller' clubs fans will echo these feelings.

If this article ever gets out the blocks we could see changes within our own FA & PGMOL could match those seen recently within FIFA........
    But dont hold your breath

To be fair, we also have to ask, does he have any reason to be bitter against these organisations?

What he has said won't do. He'll have to be more specific. Will he talk about specific games this has happened in, and will he name names?
