Agree with all of that. My biggest gripe with FSG was the vacilating over the Suarez case - they did neither one thing nor another in the end and ran scared when the English press threatened to crucify their brand. They were slow to rebuild Anfield, and considering they were given the club at a knockdown price by RBS on the basis that they were ready to go and do the job I find that puzzling. The did recapitalise the club though after the H&G fiasco when administration and a ten point reduction was possible; for that we should we be grateful.

But are they now looking at it as a way to make money and win the occasional cup - a Newcastle model with the odd season of CL? Leicester have raised hopes that any team can still win the league; well let's hope so as we're not even at the Arsenal model of continuous CL football without a hope of winning the EPL, let alone genuine title contenders after six years of FSG. And unless we do a Leicester, nothing will change soon.

if we don't take the Chinese on board either by selling the club to them or selling a big chunk then we'll never get anywhere cos they are not going away and will buy spurs or the hammers or maybe the saints then we'll be further down the pecking order.

I personally hate all this money coming in, its all ****ing nuts.

Its a very valid point. There are 2 clubs in that 3 that have big stadiums under way or have them and are ready to go.

The Chinese will buy a big English team at some point. No question.

The money coming into the premiership has reached ludicrous proportions. The bottom club this season will earn more than the winners of the CL! So we have now reached the point when qualifying for the CL only brings a bit more cash and staying in the premiership is all. Are we going to now celebrate the Sunderlands of this world getting a point to win the 17th place trophy. Which incidentally is >>>> The Wenger trophy.

We're yet to find a naming partner for the stand and we extended Klopp's contract very very early on into his tenure ...

What are the chances that the Chinese investment will include the naming rights (probably at an inflated rate to boost FFP).

    Convenient.

we've been "told" we won't hear on naming rights until at least 2017.

I doubt we gave klopp a new deal and have not done a deal cos someone is just about to buy us out..... I kind of take warner has his face value statement. Not for sale... no point in hoping no matter how much another 500mil to psned on players and wages would do.

Yes. i meant why would be give him a new deal just to coax a selling bid on the club. He was signed up enough for fsg to sell the club with him in situ this year.... all the possible clubs that might poach him are not wanting a manager for 2 years.

I just doubt we would be doung things to just sell.

To be fair to them it had been a struggle previously just getting the residents around Anfield onside. And they didn't rush into it, which was smart. They weighed up the pros and cons of a move or developing Anfield and came down on the side of the fans, despite that being the tougher choice. They got it, which was refreshing in owners but hardly surprising for people who were fans at Fenway Park long before they bought it.

I think FSG were careful not slow. they took a huge mess on and had to write off the book a massive loss on the pink elephant stadium G&H faked. They then went to the council and had to negotiate planning and a CP on houses to get the main stand and anfield raod ends dealt with.

They broke ground and built the main stand.

So..... basically for me its 6 years since they took over and i fail to see how they could have done this much quicker without trampling over people. The council have been very good to us.

I just hope we announce a redevelopment of the anfield road end quickly. I HOPE we see it as even if marginal its worth it and the protest that screamed greed at them hasn't put them off.

I think anyone living in the area has to in general put up with a lot on match days etc but the stuff the council have announced could be great for the area (in general) and bring quite a number of jobs.

The main stand brings jobs in concessions etc. A hotel would bring jobs, a big club shop brings jobs. Nice paths and trees and all sorts......

I think they came down on the side of finance personally.

Building a completely new stadium a stones throw from Anfield or redeveloping the existing site for far less cash and therefore providing a greater revenue return compared to the capital invested was just good business sense.

Added to that is the tradition etc, so they've achieved something that suits all parties.

I'll believe it when I see it. Only seems to be the Mirror running with it. Chinese have seen their arse with Teresa May anyway - let's see where these G20 talks go, and her explanation of Hinkley Point especially, before we expect the Chinese to enter new ventures in post-Brexit England.

[QUOTE="moreinjuredthanowen, post: 9661337, member: 1010745"]I think FSG were careful not slow. they took a huge mess on and had to write off the book a massive loss on the pink elephant stadium G&H faked. Again, Houghton (sp) and RSB's expanation for selling the club at @ half price (albeit a distressed sale) was that NESV, as it was, were ready there and then to expand the ground. I have no sympathis for Hicks, especially, and Gillete, but if the argument for a quick, underpriced sale was that a new ground would 'imminently' be started on and it then took five years.... well, shades indeed of an epic swindle.

As said, no sympathy for Hicks as he turned down a second offer of £450m from DIC only a year before that would have seen him cover all his debts and then some. He, over Gillete, so we're told, wanted to hold out for @ £660m ($1bn) that Forbes said the club were worth. Well in 2008 before the crash they did, anyway. And H&G had told Moores the same bullshit in 2007 when they gazumped DIC in the first place, trousering Moores et al several millions more in the process (and he's the **** at the source of our wasted ten years since Istanbul if you ask me), but whilst grateful to FSG for saving the club from administration and recapitalising it, let's not fool ourselves that FSG's slow process was anything other than financially motivated. And we've still fallen further behind City, Uniturd and Chelsea in the process, and I don't just mean the sugar-daddy element of the oil clubs, I mean commercially and world profile too.
