No City this week, but unless you fancy the long drive to Eastleigh, there's no Ferriby at home to go to either. But if you fancy popping down to a local club and taking in a bit of non-league, here's some local fixtures for you. Hall Road Rangers are at home to Ollerton FC in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division 1. Winterton Rangers are away at Yorkshire Amateur in the same division (Bracken Edge, Leeds) Goole AFC are at home to Bamber Bridge in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division 1. For any Northern Northerners in the area, Scarborough are away at Kendal Town in the Evo Stik NPD1. Decent day out anyway, nice place Kendal. **** cake though. Nobody wants cake that tastes like Polos. In the FA Cup first round qualifying there are a few local sides in action; Newcastle Benfield vs Bridlington Town Kings Lynn Town vs Brigg Town FC Finally, a nice piece from Ferriby; their players and staff have each pledged £10 towards the cost of travel for their fans for their trip to Macclesfield Town on October 1st. No ASI funding there, just a bunch of lads who mix football with day jobs putting their hands in their pockets to help fans. Top stuff. Fate is a funny thing; on the day that Macclesfield, our erstwhile rivals and a team that we used to struggle against will be trotting out against Ferriby, we will be playing Chelsea, at home, in the Premier League.
For how many years were Macclesfield our rivals? Just checked, seems about 8 years (97-04). Most of their existence they have been non-league of course. We've played more against Chelsea anyway, every decade except 40s and 50s.
Peterborough v Swindon on Sky at 12. May as well see who the next 5 million quid forward is going to be.
My football today was getting pissing wet through watching the Grandson play. Was a really good game, lost 3-2 to Hexby of York, but a good close game.
Watched Hornsea Town beat Walkington 2-1 in Humber Prem div 1. Thoroughly entertaining with both teams giving it their all. Deano played for Walkington which was a nice bonus. Ps...Hull United also play in this league
Ah I thought they'd jacked it in, they were expelled from the league above I know that. I guess they're happy playing in the Humber Prem then.
They were relegated two divisions. I don't think they're happy about it. Big shame in my opinion, it was a great little club to go and watch. Ultimately there was just no organisation after Jamie Waltham left. I think he was a bit dodgy from what Ashbee and Woodhouse said, but he took a lot of people with him and whilst Ash and Curtis were a great managerial team, there was no one to run the club itself. They're still plodding on but I can't see it ever taking off again like it had looked like doing.
