As I've said before can't really blame Jose for being disappointed/annoyed. This was most likely his only chance to play for one of the worlds biggest clubs and he didn't get the move. It is going to take awhile for him to get over it I think, and it is something I think he will look back on when he i retired with a huge amount of regret.
I don't think United were ever really interested in having Jose as a first-choice CB. A large part of the rumour came from the link with Mourinho, via their common nationally and their shared agent, and most of the rest came from the media. If they wanted him at all it would have been as a Rickie-style bench warmer and for his leadership in the dressing room. If he can't see that, someone needs to give him a good talking to, or his last years as a player will be ruined.

You can blame him, and be guiltless about it. If this really was his chance, then he should be fuming with Utd for not trying hard enough....if at all. What a petulant egotistical jumped up little **** he has become over one summer. A great Saints player once wrote;
"Seven years, destroyed in one moment." (or something to that effect) Well, Jose has had more than one moment for me.

But isn't that the point? He has been a starter at a top 8 team for the last few years, probably feels like he deserves the chance to play CL/better chance of winning a couple of medals/earn more money even if it is in more of a rotation role. I agree about the United interest wasn't all that as I was very surprised by the lack of fight from Fonte's end to try and get the deal done if there was serious interest. I guess that shows he does hold Saints in high esteem as a majority of players in that situation would've done a lot more to force the move through.

Isn't it the opposite? What United want, United get. It wasn't Fonte not pushing for it but Man Utd not pushing for it which has stopped him leaving. He needs to start acting like a captain again.

If I was Jose I would be a lot more than pissed of at the moment and my attitude would be "Screw you ****ing lot". But then I have always been vindictive. Never forgive and never forget.

The point is that every week he is paid far more than you or I earn in a year to play for Saints. He gets bonuses when the team do well, and he needs to start making sure he gets those bonuses pretty soon, or his days as a first choice CB in a top-half team will be gone. The club look to him to lead the team on the pitch, and if he can't be arsed to do that, then drop him and give the armband to someone who will show some passion for the club.

It's obvious that the owner of a football club will have to invest money in it. thay goes for the owner of any business. If the owner is not prepared to do this then that business will fail. with the tv money as it is and the way we buy and sell players if we are not self sufficient then then we never will be.

Not sure of your personal set up work wise, but I seriously hope you don't run your own business.

All businesses are in existence to make money, not keep pumping it in.

As Beefy says, we don't know what debts need servicing etc.

Personally I'm quite comfortable about how we do things, and think we likely wanted other players, but they didn't quite happen.

Now, where is Fats to violently agree with me and hit that like button...:emoticon-0176-smoke

You speak for yourself about wages, Chilcs;)

I'd be pretty hacked off, not to mention bankrupt, if I had to throw money into my business every month!

Another international break, another player interview starting to do the rounds on social media. This time again with Jose. Quotes on Jose saying the following:

José Fonte: "Was I disappointed ManUtd move didn't happen? Let's leave that for another time." Guess that means yes.

His instagram feed is still all about Portugal, not a sniff about Saints. Time for him to knuckle down and get excited about leading this great team of ours out of the San Siro.

His latest Instagram says something different.

I'd like to say I'm shocked at how quickly people have turned on Fonte after a rumoured move that really didn't come close to materialising and one bad game... But at this point, I can't say that I am.

The deafening silence coming from the Club only made things worse, it just left the conspiracy theorists with room to make up their own stories which the gullible were happy to believe. No smoke without fire though.

Nice, just seen it. I would type it out for the forum, but it's not the shortest. The cynic in me thinks he may have been given a gentle nudge. Actions always speak louder than words though for me, (surely even he knows his performances so far have been a bit dodgy) so a rock solid performance at the back against Arsenal (and beyond) will put this all to bed.

Fonte hasn't exactly been public either ... most players on social media at least post a "nice to be back" messgae etc. we heard nothing from Fonte (and didn't until tonight).

Well, he has apparently done so now, he probably had more faith in us than we had in him? I think we should accept what he has said and move on.
