    Excactly!

You're in no position to negotiate from the outside. What Cameron should have done is come clean. Tell the public, 'I've done my best to negotiate what I think is best for the country, but this is the best I can do'

If European leaders had not been so sure of Cameron's fidelity, and of his assurances that he would secure a remain vote, they might well have been a bit more flexible.

Perhaps, but as it stands, they're basing their decision on how things are now, using the same information available to us all. It implies they're in favour of brexit.

No, it does not. It implies that they know which side their bread is buttered. Plus, they voted recently and heavily to remain in the EU. That does not indicate any desire to leave whatsoever.

The Sweaties have no love for us, and their current vote, if that's what is - I haven't checked it - would be purely out of self interest.

Not sure I can read that far into it as I can't tell how many want to be part of a UK in a single market. The questions are framed on the basis that non-brexit isn't an option.

We'll be out of the EU eventually. The poll (for all it's weakness) shows clearly they'd rather stay with us and leave than go for the EU.

You are right brexit is the only option so you cannot use the poll to argue Scots are against or in favour.
However I do believe the access to the single market question is missing the option I referred to.

Is UK access to a single market not an option? I'm sure I've heard the Three brexiteers say they wanted access but without paying to the EU, removal of EU law and our own immigration control.

    Round in circles.

Going back to my original point, another poll when the oil price takes off again would produce a different result. Especially with Sturgeon winding them up.

Why should we pay to the EU? We will not be part of the administration.

And if they found gold in the highlands, that could sway them too, but neither are on the table right now, which is what the discussion is about. It's the hypothetical bit that sends it in circles. Leave that red herring out and it'll perhaps progress.

You'd need to talk to Switzerland and Norway about that one.

But we're different! The EU will allow us to trade freely without contributing financially or allowing freedom of movement!
Saint Nigel of the Farage will use his magic powers, then have a pint and it'll all be solved.

It's not a red herring, if you even know the meaning of that?

It's a pure and simple statement of fact. Scotland would currently vote to stay in the UK purely out of self interest. Once those self interests change, so will their vote.

The fact that the SNP is the ruling party there should give you a clue!..

It's a different discussion to the one at hand.
