About half the ground still clapping I note. Liam Sweeney's family said a while back it should now draw to an end as respects have been paid. At the back of the Milburn we have the memorial garden which is fitting enough moving forward I feel so why does it still happen? Appreciate each person has their own choice and no offence if you do clap still but it's something which is starting to annoy me personally if truth be told. A couple of the clappers around me yesterday were even calling the 'non clappers'.
Always feel uneasy talking about topics like this. I totally agree with you, though. You have paid your respects, it is time to move on. Sir Bobby didn't even get clapped, every game, for a full season. I personally think it had already gone a bit far going the full season. However, that's your guys choice. Other Newcastle supporters have died since and before then, folk will say why not show them your appreciation, as well.
Everyone to their own devices for me. Keep it going if you want, if not, don't. We're individuals at the end of the day, and no one should be putting pressure on anyone either way. Personally I haven't clapped for a while, but that's my choice.
I think the problem is that it looks less respectful if it's half hearted and that is sad. I think the tributes have been paid and the lads will always be respected remembered and loved but it's time to bring it to an end.
Been to a few away games with John Alder over the years and his mate fink....i remember the day it happened and fink told me what went on......dont know what's for the best......think it may he time to stop. Its worse when its half hearted...rip lads
Went to my first game of the season vs Brighton, can't believe it's still going. Still, anything that gets the miserable twats in the Leases doing anything than tucking into a picnic is OK by me. If you aren't gonna sing, stay home you useless twats.
It normally registers with me that people are clapping by about 17:40 on the clock as I think some people think they are still obliged to clap and it slowly builds around the ground. To keep it going for a whole season was very respectful and a credit to the fans. To continue it for a second season was nice but unnecessary. But we are now into a third season and considering the Sweeney family has requested we move on I think it's time to do as they ask.
Let it run its course. In 20 years there will be half a dozen people who applaud the 17th minute to the puzzlement of their neighbours. If for them it maintains a sense of connection to honour what will be an obscure piece of the club's history, good on them.
I stopped last season. Whilst I respect individual choice, it's annoying as ****. Are they going to keep clapping for the rest of time?
It needs to stop, so does the moaning from some of our fans when away fans don't all unanimously join in. Life goes on.
