most frustrating player i have ever watched .... ok did well in the euros . but that is not the fast epl .... he has no skill just strength and good engine when in the mood. get him into a corner and he is fooked ...
So, you think that Poch is a mug-manager, do you? You think he's taken on this player without having a clue about him, or any belief that he can get him to play the way that he wants him to play?
It could be a good deal for both clubs. He was never going to be a £30 million for us because he didn't see us as a big enough club so only put the effort in when he though it would benefit his career i.e. the game was televised. Spurs are in the Champions League and maybe challenging for the league this year so he may give 100% more often for them. Even if he sees Spurs as an interim club (just like us) and is really looking to move to a bigger club (Like the beautiful Arsenal ) the only way that is going to happen is if he plays well week in week out. So he may actually be a £30 million player for them.
With Sissoko at his best he could be worth £30million *to you*. That's putting him on a par with Kante, who also moved in this window for around £30m, so maybe flatters Sissoko slightly, but let's roll with it. That's assuming your manager can get the best out of him (how many managers do you know who *underestimate* their man management skills?) but that's another discussion. However, *to us * he was worth far, far less. Maybe £5million (what we paid for Diame), maybe less when you take into account his effect on team morale, sky-high wages, total lack of commitment and so on. You could make a strong case that he was costing us more in wages than he was adding in footballing value to the squad - hence a negative value. So a fair valuation would probably be somewhere between the two extremes of the least we'd be (rationally) willing to accept, and the most you should rationally pay. Instead we got £30million - right at your end of the deal. Hence why at the least this was excellent business for us, or, possibly, we robbed you blind. Anyway, I certainly don't wish Sissoko well, but have nothing against Spurs as a club. So I hope he puts in a shift for you at least.

I think he would have had the final word, as Levy rates him that much. Same with all the players we've let go. Some of them have been a real surprise to us Yids.

Echoing what GHB said IF ..and its a huge IF from our perspective...He plays consistently close to Euros Sissoko ...fair price paid from spurs POV that said.. the Beast Sissoko was very consistent for us.. he consistently only turned up 3 times a season (on super-duper sunday/vs Chelsea) ...and was a malignant, whinging, whining, shirker of a cancer to the club (see Gini and how to leave a club for reference) ..So 30 million? that will do verrrrry nicely Thank ya kindly

That invisible force field is the 18yard line to you and me
I'm pleased as punch to get him sold. £30m was one hell of a price. And that should assist Rafa in January if another Townsend becomes available to help our Premiership return plan stay on the rails. I don't wish Sissoko well. He let himself down big style by not trying far too often. I hope his story will teach Ashley that the stepping stone club philosophy, which includes being relegated from the riches of Premiership football needs never to rear its ugly head again.
I think you've missed my point slightly - the price should have been much lower for it to be good business for you. Even if Sissoko comes good, and is worth £30m at the end of the season, you should have managed to get him for less, because he was worth so much less to us. An analogy: Someone is offering to flog you their Netflix subscription, because their internet connection is too slow to stream videos, so if they don't sell it, it will just expire without with them ever being able to use it. You'd be a mug to offer them full price for it - a fair deal would be to buy it at a discount. If, once you've bought it, Netflix suddenly improve the quality of their content over the course of the year, that's good luck on your part. But you'd still have been a mug to pay full price for a subscription the other bloke was dying to get rid of.
Thing is this, though. Hindsight makes geniuses of us all. Every player is a gamble, for every club. Sure, £30m is a bigger gamble than £3m, but Levy and his board obviously feel it's one that Spurs can afford to take. Some clubs obviously cannot take that kind of gamble, which is why we've ended up with him. Us Yids are more than used to getting in players who then fail to impress. Trust me, it happens to us every season. If 1 in 4 players brought in work out for us, I count that as a result.
No, I understand your point perfectly well. We have a need for a player like Sissy playing at his best. Poch obviously believes he can get Sissy playing at his best more often than not, and Levy and his board obviously believe that it's worth £30m to take that risk in order to get Sissy to the club. If Sissy was never going to perform for the Toon, he's worthless to you as a player at your club, so get shot for the best price you can. You did that. Good bit of business. But that doesn't mean he's going to be worthless to us. Time will tell.
Jokes aside, if the £30m valuation has priced in the risk and the fact we value him lower, then that would mean the value to your club of having a fully-fit Sissoko would be far higher - upwards of £50m. Time will tell, I guess, but you'll forgive us Toon fans if we're a bit sceptical.
