I've been fuming all summer about how ****e our transfer business has been and how tight short is. But, in hindsight, it might not be that bad. The only first teamers we've lost from the back end of last season (where we lost 1 in 10 or around that) are yedlin, mvila, kaboul. Yedlin we've replaced with better imo in manquillo. Mvila we've replaced with big dong. Can't say i know much about him but the club must have faith to spend that much money. Willing to reserve judgement but from what I've heard he could actually be a better fit for what we need than yann - apparently the lad is an excellent passer of the ball which is something we have lacked in midfield for years. Kaboul is the only one who might be missed with his leadership at the back. In terms of actual talent, I'm happy that between papy and denayer we have replaced him like-for-like, if not better. And we all know another injury was just around the corner for him anyway. So overall, not too bad? Yes we're a bit thin on numbers but with the youngsters we have coming through i think we should be ok. Considering all the **** the club had to deal with (sam, various players / agents being ****s, etc.), i think they've done alright. We'll be fine.
I hope your right mate, the one we had last season we have not replaced in N'Doye, he at least was another option up front. I just hope Asoro is up to the task as he will be the man if Defoe gets injured.
Not if Defoe or Pickford get injured mate. I'm chuffed at the players we'e managed to get in, we'e actually gone for quality this time. My concern is the lack of back-up for Defoe, if he gets crocked, where will the goals come from?
East tiger. We haven't replaced Yann. We have signed a contract with him to come in January. M'Vila is also an excellent passer of the ball. He had the best passing statistics in our midfield, last season.
If he is a free agent, I would honestly have bendtner back for a season, thought he did okay for us last time, and gives us abother option up front with his size
Got to disagree on the window not being too bad. As far as I can see we haven't strengthened any area from last season (quality wise), even Steve Harper leaving is looking like a big loss at the minute! Already looking forwards to January we need 2 strikers and M'Vila but doubt we'll get him in, he's a huge step up on the likes of Cattermole, Rodwell etc.
I'll be happy if our CM's consist of Kirchoff Cattermole M'Vila NDong Rodwell Rodders being 5th choice obviously. Maybe try and ship him out somewhere and bring in someone more attack minded in Jan.
Or Yedlin, I'd expect him to be better than Yedlin who wasn't great at defending but it's not a major leap in terms of quality. We've basically gone from a loan to another loan.
The players we brought in are good, I believe, it's just the lack of a striker that worries me. It'll be even harder watching us knowing that if Defoe gets an injury we're going to be turning to Asoro to save us. It's not cool to expect that of him and he's probably not ready for it.
Never seen it confirmed but to be fair we were obligated to sign Alvarez and had a fee agreed for M'Vila...
Striker is the one. We won't necessarily be relying on asoro though, there a few semi-decent options available on a free. I'll probably get pelters for this but i also think watmore could be very effective in the "vardy role" if we play on the counter. The lad's vision / decision making is poor but he's rapid as **** and a decent finisher. If we can get him latching onto through balls / balls over the top on the break he could be lethal i think.
I don't think its been a terrible transfer window but if you look at where were at the end of last season, I would have thought that we would have made more progress than we have. We haven't really improved the midfield on last year and our options in wide positions aren't really any greater than last season. We've got more strength in depth at centre back (in fact, I believe we have 5 of them) but only 1 left back and 1 striler (if you don't count Asoro who is still very young). I'm happy with who we've brought in but would be much happier if M'Vila was here, Lens hadn't gone, and we had a second senior striker. Despite all that, I firmly believe that this season will be better than last.
