Newcastle has been a car crash of a club for 5 years. Only Villa run them close in terms of how not to run a football club. Too few English and far too many foreign players with little PL experience, 'coached' by some shockingly bad managers. In turn the club is owned by a universally disliked ****er who the fans detest.

I've no idea if Sissoko is the player who was a star at The Euro's or an inmate in the asylum but Koeman and Pochettino reckon they can get a tune out of him, so we'll just have to wait and see. I wouldn't fancy being a 'no-show' player in our dressing room as there's no room for it at Spurs under The Sheriff. Too much money? Abso-bloody-lutely.

Echoing thoughts of other posters. We haven't grabbed ourselves a bargain here but like Lamela he may grow into his price tag and pay it off if he stays for the full five years. I was never very excited by this signing because he's done very little in his time in the Premiership, but we were short and the club decided there wasn't better value out there. I trust Levy, and the two managers who were after him, Koeman and Poch, are not idiots!

As others have said we've done well enough with transfers over the last few years to justify paying over the odds for one squad player. Looking at this window's other £25-30m players, I can't say I'd want any of them instead. As Dembele back-up I'd have preferred we went for Schweinsteiger, or even Yaya, as an experienced head who'd be cheap and do a job when required, but oh well!

I’ve never been as angry at Levy as when we failed to get Moutinho. My theme was penny wise and pound foolish. Now we’ve got CL football, and a stadium on its way. We’ve just had two clubs who succeeded in matching us at our game of outhustling and outmuscling the opposition. The reaction, which was to double down on muscle and athleticism, makes sense to me. We paid a solid 10 million more than we should have for Sissokho. But frankly, that’s chump change in the world the PL has become. The decent chance he can keep us as the stronger side in big games is more than worth the gamble. Suddenly our AMs don’t look in any way anemic, since Sissokho can free Dembélé to play CAM, or can play the wing himself. We also now have four of the most formidable midfield presences in football.

I’ve been distracted by the uncertainties over who would come in, but want to say that while I wish all of our outgoing players all the best, the one who chokes me up is Ryan Mason. There were better Spurs, but very few who were more Spurs. Fans should always remember the way he (I think quite knowingly) risked severe injury to get us our first win last year. If he had not, things might have gone very differently. He’s one reason I’m glad nearly all PL starters make millions. The way he took that goal last year deserved that kind of reward.

It is a little annoying the lack of planning that went into this transfer. Newcastle take Yedlin off us for an absolute steal, then 3 days later they fleece us for one of their players. Yedlin could have provided the leverage to knock a few more million off Sissoko's price tag. £20m plus Yedlin looks much better then £30m...

Like when the club sold Bale and brought in 7 new players this has moved too fast for me BUT if Spurs lose to Stoke after all this they want their backsides KICKING.

Maybe it was revenge, seeing as we completely ripped them off with the Townsend fee.

Another deadline day passes and we look back at a transfer window of quite significant change at our team. I wish all those who have left us good luck (even Fazio) and I hope particularly that Mason and Pritchard are successful in the future.

As for the incomings I like the look of all of them, yes the fee for Sissoko is a lot of money, but overall as a package of 4 outfield additions I think under £70m for Jansen, Wanyama, Sissoko and N’Koudou in the current market looks like reasonable value.

I like everyone hope that Poch can get the France Moussa in a Spurs shirt, then the £30m maybe will be money well spent. He should be in his prime and he is used to the premier league so in a world where Slimani was £29m, Mustafi £35m, Alonso £23m and Benteke £27m we haven’t been fleeced at the end of the window any more than other teams have.

How lucky is Tom Carroll eh?!

Squad being sold left, right and centre and he's nowhere to be found.

Couldn't believe waking up today to find we'd fobbed off this arrogant lazy scrote on you for £30m!

I can't think of a more disliked player for quite a while! He was the main reason we went down last season, McClaren wanted to build his team around him, and he was just lazy and anonymous for 95% of the season. Then he has the nerve to come out and say he's given 100% in every game for us, and starts talking about moving to Real Mardrd and Arsenal.

As well as being a total prick he's incredibly infuriating on the pitch too, doesn't pass and always wants to charge through the other team like a bulldozer and shoot from 30 yards and balloons it 700 yards over the bar, in 130 games for us he's scored about 10 goals and only one of them was from long range....well at least he'll bring your shots off target up!!!

I just can't quite put my finger on it at the moment but I think there is a common theme developing in the posts from toon fans regarding Sissoko

I think it's safe to say that McClaren was the reason you went down last year. Absolute shambles of a manager, which i'm sure you don't need reminding of. <ok>

Oh yes McClaren was a horrendous manager, I've no problem admitting that, and it was absolutely stupid to appoint him in the first place, seeing as his track record shows he's a walking disaster.

There were a number of reason why - McClaren, Graham Carr having control of signings and spending a fortune on dross like Thauvin that the manger didn't want, the dressing room being in revolt, having Colocini and Taylor in defence for the first 30 games....but Sissoko was a massive factor, he had a key role and wasn't bothered and just went missing for most of the season. We didn't receive many offers because most teams wised up and realised that he was just playing for a transfer in the Euros,, and he'd been dire for the whole year before.

And fans do generally know , however, they can also be wrong. Lamella and Dembele were were both '' a waste of money'' 2 seasons ago.
Even Townsend regularly under performed for us but for QPR and Newcastle was great. Every club has an example of a player who was *****e for them and goes somewhere else and performs.
When I watched the Euro's I couldn't believe he was the Sissoko of Newcastle. I had to double check.
Anyway as a sub we only need him to perform in a handful of games.

I feel the craziest thing is that we've paid £30mil for a squad player-but them are the prices in this window.

I have faith that Poch can get the best out of players so am quietly confident he'll handle Sissoko.

I always had faith in Dembele and knew he'd come good...but not this good.
Lamela, on the other hand, I was willing us to give him away!!!

I hear what you're saying, and i'm sure it's been a bit of a vicious circle at Newcastle for a while. Especially with the relegations you've faced and constant managerial changes/ poor hirings.

You guys may well be correct, but it's certainly going to be a different environment here.
Pochettino has built something I've never seen at spurs, by where all the players love the club and enjoy their football. They know what's expected of them and many of them have improved significantly, and therefore trust his coaching ideas and philosophy of football. Sissoko is going to be amongst a group of players who knuckle down, train hard and perform (most of the time <laugh>). If he has got any sort of attitude issues, he's not going to be around players with a similar midset. So he'll either shape up very quickly, or become an outcast. I'm sure he knows that, because he's hardly come to spurs for the money! <laugh>
