I have fond, fond memories of this forum on the day of the 5-1. Arguably the best day's craic I've had on here, well between that and Tiote day.
I didn't come onto the SAFC forum for a few days after. I'd thought you'd suffered enough in my book and I don't like kicking people when they're down.
I think the fact that some of us actually felt sorry for them made it even worse. Do you think that next time they come to SJP they will just stay on the buses and cut out climbing all those stairs just to come all the way back down before half-time?
The trouble with the away end at Sad James' is that you can't really see what's going on anyway...**** ground..**** view etc..
Which was probably a blessing for you guys on Halloween. To be honest, the scarey thing about the forthcoming derby is that the result could be anything from 5-1 to us to 5-1 to you. With so many changes to each clubs starting line ups and with it being so early in the season, anything could happen.
I remember last haloween being SO cocksyre we were going to stuff them at Syd James'. Work with a coupla skunkks and ripped the p*** all Friday...... Monday was bad..... This time, my heart and head say the same - we will win! Just am not gonna shout it from the rooftops this time. So please, don't tell a soul. x
You see this is quite typical of the passive aggressive stance of a lot of you mags on here - you complain about some Sunderland posters but cannot help having a dig at the same time and then you complain some more when some lads respond with 'cockiness'. You guys can't have it both ways - and if you look there seem to be more Mags bragging about another 5-1 than Makems bragging about reversing the result. My 'prediction' earlier in the thread that I feel (on paper, at home, in the second week of the season) 3:1 would be a reasonable score was maybe the biggest scoreline differential any of us are suggesting and I also said I was not confidant - in fact I'm bricking it - hardly cockiness.. Anyone who doesn't believe their team is capable of such a victory is probably either not confident in their team this year or is so afraid to leave themselves open to yet more abuse that they keep quiet. So I do not know where you're getting all this 'cockiness' from - maybe one Sunderland poster retaliating to the taunts from you lot. It's also just possible that when reading the threads we each read into comments what we want to - one person's oppinion of 'cocky' is interpreted by another as jocular hyperbole... one persons passive aggressive hostility is another person's banter - depends mainly on respective loyalties of the poster and the reader I suspect.
I think if you read the rest of my posts you will see that I am not confident about the result of the derby and would certainly not feel "cocky" about it. My remark about the buses was a silly, gentle joke and not in anyway meant as a "cocky insult" so either I did not convey this very well or you are being a bit sensitive. I honestly don't know which.
You see this is the problem - there is no way to make 'gentle' jokes between the two sets of fans. I've had some very hostile anonymous rep thrown my way for what I considered (honestly) friendly banter... I suppose it's because I worked for a number of years in Newcastle (at Newcastle Poly) and banter was a constant thing between friends and no one got upset. But when strangers would start giving me the gears it didn't feel so friendly... and that's what everyone on here is; essentially strangers, so virtually nothing comes across as 'friendly banter'. Fact of life I'm afraid.
Strange. He hardly had a proper go at you lot, no need to get bent out of shape over just the sort of banter I'd expect with my 80 year old Grandad. It's easy as hell to make 'gentle' jokes, or basic banter where one slyly remarks over an embarrassing moment for the other - both sets of fans can do it very well. The only issue is the select few (from both sides) who can't even have a normal civil conversation on here, eg. somebody posts something relevent or interesting and some idiot quotes it and replys with a load of needless and unrelated insults simply because they subscribe to the rival tribe.
I think if you had read my post a little more carefully I was saying it's possible between friends (and I guess 'grandads' was implied) but not between strangers. It's like irony which hardly ever works on forums or with Americans.
Perhaps if you had read mine a little more carefully you'd have noticed I went on to say that it is very possible and happens between both sets of fans. I have no hard feelings toward anybody on here at all and have many times been subjected to some, often well crafted, digs at my team. I also went on to say that it is obviously just the idiots who spoil it. Still no idea how you found his little pop even remotely worth bothering about.
