Any idea why? I read online somewhere that Hakan advised Son against moving to Spurs last year. Be a strange one if this were to happen.

Imho we have bought who we needed. Pochettino must have an idea on which reserve players are doing well enough to step into the first team if needed.
He has let players go to free up room in the squad and to be honest the stories in the press are just that...stories.
I am pretty relaxed about it to be honest. If we hadn't got Janssen and had sold Son I would have been concerned but as it is I think we have a stronger first team than last season and a better balance squad over all.

Some rumours earlier today that we were lining up Diego Alves in case the Pau Lopez deal fell through.
Bit of an odd one, as he's currently back-up to Matt Ryan at Valencia, who's a fairly young Australian keeper.
Why's that odd? Ryan had a trial with us four years ago when he was signed to an Aussie side.

Not convinced myself. I think we need another midfielder...a "marshal" type rather than an attacker.

This has probably been our best window in yonks, we got the perfect business done early on in Janssen and Wanyama and we're still linked with (albeit very late) moves for others that are basically bonuses in my opinion. Not forgetting Nkoudou who should be announced at some point, it's nice to just kick back and chill at what happens in the window and be happy whether we sign anymore or not.

Surely we have exactly the same first team as last year? Not sure there is enough depth. Would only take an injury to Janssen or Kane and we are down to one Centre Forward for league and CL for example? I can't see who is pushing Eriksen for his place - Carroll?

Now surely finding another Davids type would be perfect territory for
some "last minute Levy" (TM) activity.

This is Spurs and Levy we're talking about here, guys.!

We'll be linked to everybody and his brother between now and 11pm UK time. We'll 'almost get something or somebody over the line' but will almost certainly fail to actually sign anybody!

Unless a gift drops into Levy's lap!...

On Sky's yellow screen they have in the studio, there is an "in's" and "out's" rumors for every club. One of our "in's" is Hakan. I have no idea why he's there, but I'm more inclined to believe sky over anyone else. But like you say, with that in mind, maybe it's bullshit. Or maybe that story about Son was bullshit? Who knows.

time is kicking on and on deadline day, sky do tend to know everything. There's no new rumors, just Sissoko. - who we're apparently miles apart on valuation.

GKN will go through I'm sure, and apparently the goalkeeper has. As for anyone else, I'm gonna say that's the lot.
We'd know of other names by now. Any new ones that do come through over the next couple of hours will not be successful.

As Brian and CK have so eloquently stated in previous posts, the antics from Levy on deadline day don't work and end up with the same outcome.

So why are we, as usual, engaged in desperate-looking last-ditch efforts to sign more players? I'm not having a dig at you rcl, just venting a bit here because we saw it a few years ago with Moutinho, saw it last year with Berahino and now this year with Sissoko (players whose names end with an 'o' should be banned from ever speaking to Spurs <laugh>). This is a recurring pattern: the club does some sensible business early on in the window with minimal fanfare, and we all nod our heads and stroke our beards thinking 'hmm yes we're addressing the deficiencies nice and early - excellent!' But then as the outgoings inevitably pile up to balance the books, we enter a phase usually in the last week or so of the window, of collective nervousness. And here's the rub:

If Pochettino, Levy and whoever else makes decisions is so confident in the players we have available, why do we spend almost every deadline day eyeing up players who could come close to breaking, or actually break, our transfer fee record? This isn't small change we're talking about - the 3 players I've mentioned would've cost a total of £80m if we'd met the asking price and actually gone ahead with the business. Unless the whole thing is some kind of sick 'look at me I'm trying so hard but other clubs are so unreasonable I know they've made a price clear for 2 months now but I just don't see how that's fair' Levy joke, the implication is actually very worrying...

Every single year, we come to the damning realisation that we are actually worryingly understaffed in key areas, one or two injuries away from disaster, and we set about in a frankly embarrassing way entering futile negotiations with clubs and players who gladly fry the eggs for us to apply to face at 11pm.

I'm sorry but I'm calling BS on this whole position that many posters have. If things were so hunky-dory, what the hell are we doing pissing about with Zaha and Sissoko so late in the window? We should be the calmest, most relaxed team in the league, not entering into deals that could break our transfer record!

Sorry if I came across a bit harsh mate, I just feel like every single year we are played the fool.

As I said earlier, it could just be Levy playing for fun this time (even though he has real previous) .

Berahino was not a last minute thing last year...it dragged on virtually from day one...we clearly wanted him and even met the asking price but then WBA decided they wanted it all up front so the deal fell.
We also wanted Moutinho and again, that went on for weeks.
Personally I think Sissoko is BS story.
We have made some terrible transfer window mess ups as discussed...but I don't think that this is a bad one.

And don't worry bout sounding harsh...I get pulled up plenty for chatting ****e so am well used to it <laugh>

Fulham are being linked with Adebayor on a free. Fulham. Ful...ham.
I wonder how he feels about this stage of his career?

    1) Yes, last year. The year that we're all praying will be the new rule rather than the exception that proves the rule of spending power=success.
    2) No we didn't. We made four different bids for him in the space of 48 hours. Four. We didn't have a fooking clue what we thought he was worth, as long as it could be paid in installments. And we all sat watching and cringing as our manager waxed lyrical about how much he 'loved' the player. He loved him so much that Levy apparently didn't know he even existed until 3 hours before the window closed.
    3) I would agree with you if our general background behaviour on deadline day didn't look like that last kid to be picked on a team in the playground. We look desperate, clueless an panicked every single year. We look silly, not sensible. GKN taking 6 weeks to sign (still hasn't!) is silly. Not entering negotiations with Moutinho early enough to deal with 3rd parties is silly. Bidding for West Brom's best player 3 hours before the window closes is silly. Pretending we have what we need then eye up a player who could break our transfer record is silly. Risking the whole of last season on the chance that our only striker didn't get injured is silly.

In fact it isn't silly. It's amateur.

Jeff Hendrick has joined Burnley from Derby for £10.5m.
There were some rumours that Carroll was due to replace him if this went through.
We'll see if there's any substance to it now, I guess.

What's frustrating is that the world and all his brothers know what 'last minute Levy's' game is. It never varies, year after year the same old nonsense!.

Can we afford to lose another squad player at this stage? I know Carroll has hardly set the world alight, and Poch is keen for the kids to play, but it seems a bit risky. <yikes>

And I think other chairmen enjoy the game, ultimately sticking two fingers up at 11pm

I'd say it's too big a risk, but I think our squad's too thin anyway.

Ladbrokes have just posted an article using a fake, photoshopped picture of N'Jie joining Marseille. <doh>
It's a shame that they're not that poor at research when it comes to other aspects of their organisation.
The odds would be all over the ****ing place.

We've cleared the decks too much to entertain losing Tom Carroll with nobody coming in. I can hear the dreaded 'bare bones' comments already.

Let's get it straight, nobody's coming and we're light again. We are light on about 7 or 8 clubs in terms of squad depth.

Hopefully we don't suffer any injuries and the kids, and there's no doubt that our young squad players are exactly that, take to top level football immediately. If this doesn't happen, we're not winning anything for the 9th year in a row and won't be anywhere near a CL finish. Given that we've spent **** all for years and have a great first XI, this is amateur and we know where it is likely to lead.
