What do we do for fire power for the rest of the season? I'm not saying Lafferty is the man to shoot us to league victory, but he has to be a major step up from what we currently have, surely?
J-R, just hoping for something better out of the blue pal - though given recent events, I'm not holding my breath.
Our transfer deadline day revolving door seems to be stuck shut. Even Newport have signed 2 more players than us, ffs!!!
I cant see Lafferty coming to us to be honest, not with Palermo sniffing around. Lafferty helped the Palermo club gain promotion to Serie A after scoring 11 goals in 34 games, but was sold by Zamparini because of non-football related issues. Winning fans player of the season.
Thoughts? http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/ca...-move-for-experienced-premier-league-striker/ Championship side Cardiff City are interested in a shock move for Rickie Lambert, according to Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones. Lambert joined the Midlands club from Liverpool last summer for a £3million fee but has found no success under Tony Pulis’ stewardship and is undoubtedly looking for a move away today. Aston Villa were vying up a move for the 34-year-old this summer, but now it would seem Cardiff are eyeing up a deadline day move for the striker. Paul Trollope’s side are a squad lacking goals at the moment with a complete overhaul of their strike force this summer still providing now improvement in goalscoring. A deadline day move for a striker would not be out of the question, but whether a move would be permanent or a loan deal is not year clear. The Baggies are set to sign former Reading man Hal Robson-Kanu today, pushing Lambert further down the pecking order. He may feel the Championship, a division where he scored 27 goals at Southampton, may be the place to end his career on a high.
Lambert is old but was absolutely prolific last chance at this level. See Blackman being mentioned as he's been 'replaced' at Derby. That would bring some much needed pace.
While Lambert is better than what we have the words the barrel, bottom and scraping of the, spring to mind but not in that order. I can't see him playing the pressing game we were told to expect this season. Granted if you put the ball in front of him near the goal he is likely to hit the target but mobility and running off the last defender will not be on the agenda. It all smacks of desperation and lack of planning by those in charge of acquiring new players. Overall we do not have a good squad and needed early, good quality signings to give us a chance of progressing. It is now clear that VT has withdrawn day to day financial support and the sale proceeds of Fabio, Moore and Marshall have been used to fund the klingons' payoffs and working capital. Anyone coming in (Amos and Bennett to begin with) are cheap Poundland acquisitions. It is going to be a long, tough season and inevitably a relegation battle.
I'm also well happy with Lambert, assuming he signs. We've been screaming out for someone who scores goals. He's done that at every level he's played at. He's a clever player with a much better understanding of the game than any of our current attackers. If I had the choice of him, Zohore or gong, I know which one I'd be looking to put my money on.
Newport have more loanees than signed players!!! Can only assume the club are banking on completing at least one striker deal today. If not.................
Well if we do anything, it's going to the wire. Maybe Choo etc have given up and gone home to bed. I see Sammy Ameobi has gone on loan to Bolton. Good luck with that!!!
