I don't know, I'm not a scout! But personally I don't see how Sissoko is the right person to address our issues, from what I've seen. I don't see any dembele similarities in him, to be honest. Even the Newcastle fans are laughing at this one!

The fact that he's on his way and has left the France squad indicates that it'll probably go through, though. If we can get him at a decent price, he'll be worth it as a another squad player. It does feel somewhat underwhelming, though. Again.

I tell you what, if Sissoko does join, we're really beefing on beast-type players aren't we? We've gone from being complete lightweights and somewhat pansies to boasting guys that are either powerful, strong or just "don't give a ****" and will get stuck in, in Dier's case that's all three <laugh>.

    I totally agree.

That is exactly what we need right now. Strength in depth. The price is steep though.

£30m is a joke, he's not worth that. Would rather use that to buy Isco a welcoming cake along with a party for when he joins later on.

£20m... Perhaps but as part up-front (£15m?) with performances based add-ons.

Sorry, this is part of 'The Levy Negotiation Strategy.'
    1. Contact club and enquire about player. Make lots of tutting and sharp inhalations of breath when told the price.
    2. Do nothing for as long as possible.
    3. On TDD go back and make a further enquiry. Give the impression that there's "a deal to be done" to the 'selling club.' Get the player to travel to London (this bit is very important.)
    4. When the player is at Spurs, indicate that there's a problem with the price and it needs renegotiation. By now, the sellers are already seeing pound notes and Newcastle's management are half pissed on champagne celebrating the victory over Levy.
    5. The player is up for the move and starts muttering about striking and slavery.
    6. Levy offers 50% of the original 'agreed' price with 2 hours to go to the close of the deadline.
    7. It all ends in tears for everyone concerned and we end up with a knackered Harry Kane/Dele Alli/Eric Lamella come the end of another potless season.
    8. Joe Lewis goes shopping for another Lucian Freud.

    This dance has hardly started.

I think it’s another game of deadline day chicken, with Levy and Newcastle in their cars, and with the chances more than even that both go off the cliff. It’ll be a nice change from the other games of deadline day chicken we may be running with N’Koudou and Meyer. But, hey, I’m in a good mood and am looking forward to some entertainment.

I think you’re completely wrong. Lewis doesn’t seem like a Lucian Freud man.

Levy brinkmanship. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

He and MP have unsettled the player, got him chomping at the bit, in fact. Now, the game about the price starts, and if it all falls through, Newcastle are left with one mightily pissed off player!

To be fair, Sissoko was unsettled as soon as Newcastle were relegated. Nothing to do with Levy or MP.

I agree with Levy. He's trying it. if it works, cool. If not, bye.

I just hope we don't regret not getting cover again.

    Levy HAS learned his lesson.

By going in for someone we are underwhelmed with he leaves us feeling good when in inevitably falls through.

    ****ing genius of a man

Yeah I have no great desire to see the back of either Son or N'Jie and they actually will be like new signings. We've seen enough of them to know that they *can* both offer traits that we need (pace, creativity, goal threat). It's way too early to judge them.

Of course N'Jie may well be on his way what with N'Koudou apparently deciding to finalist his transfer using social media. If so, same applies. We have a speedy winger-type who none of us know much about but will be the kind of player our bench needs.

If we get Sissoko I think that our transfer window might look pretty solid. A doubling of strikers at the club; Mason, Pritch, Chadli out for about 34m, Wanyama and Sissoko in for maybe a few million more (assuming Sissoko fee of mid 20-s) plus N'Whoever and Son will be like additions; FB positions are fine and with the extra strength in depth at CM we also allow Dier to potentially add strength in depth to our CBs (cover for Toby last year without weakening the CM by dropping Dier back was a worry); GK is fine.

Course I wouldn't say no to a proper, proper quality AM but I'm talking record-fee pant-wetting Gazza or Ginola (or when we agreed a fee for Juninho) stuff.

    N'Jie

    Isco

    Randoms
    * The Mail's reporting that we've bid for Morgan Schneiderlin
    * The Mail's also reporting that we've enquired about the availability of Phil Jones
    * Bild are reporting that we've offered £38m for Max Meyer, with Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel confirming they'd accept this bid (although it sounds a lot like they're trying to court a bid from someone else...)

To a extent, yes. But we actually got the player straining at the leash with an actual bid, or so the story goes, he'll be fuming if it all falls through.

And Newcastle will be left with a completely dispirited, pissed off, demotivated player that FSW will have to try and pick up again.

If Ballague is suggesting Isco is a no-goer, then chances are he's already signed!

I'm sure us signing Schneiderlin would go down well with the Soton fans, that'd be both of their former best midfielders at the club, can't see that happening though tbh. Utd surely won't sell to us.

Meyer is a surprise one, apparently an extremely good player but I've gotta admit I've never really seen him play.

Apparently the Phil Jones enquiry was knocked back.

Stoke pick up Bony and Bruno Martins Indi for very little money. Good business. Well done them!
