When talking about Zoos and Wildlife parks you have to weigh the fact that most of these animals have probably never seen the wild, combined with loss of habitat and likely hood of future extinction (tigers for example). There are many animals that could have been saved from extinction if Zoos had acted earlier.
I think Zoos however might be a thing humanity moves on from, I understand wildlife parks are much better due to the larger space the animals have, the ultimate aim should of course be to raise the animals born in Zoos etc in order to release them back into the wild. But until you can guarantee safe and stable (stable from humans) habitats, such places are needed and the only way for them to exist is too make money from visitors.

Anyway whats all this got to do with Sulky Sturridge?

Zoos are a hard call. They educate people about the natural world but they are a victorian invention and are not really what we would start from today are they?

Like circuses i suppose they have to change but while a circus might get away with horses and dogs not elephants and lions.

Can a zoo be a zoo without lions and elephants?

Depends on the reasoning...if it's just to make money? No..

If it's species protection ..maybe but then as you say they are antiquated: nothing about them is suited to keeping wild animals used to having hundreds of square miles as their territory ...they should only remain open if there isn't a safari type park available. Safari parks aren't perfect but they're better...

Ideally the money should be put into protecting them in their original habitat ..hard to do. And tbf some unsuitable sanctuaries do spend money doing just that.

I just can't stomach going to zoos anymore..

Circuses shouldn't even have a rabbit never mind horses or bigger...no reason for it.

I dunno on circus. Ive not been to one since i was 4.

Ive no idea. I would assume horses taught to do a few tricks wouldnt be badly treated but thats comparing to horses raced up and down the country.

    Again is it tradition?

Few clowns and acrobats and a few workhorses does sound like lfc squad.

Seriously, chimps would soon learn how to operate a gun. There's some damn clever parrots too, including that one from NZ that can apparently work out a unified theory of physics if there's a peanut or two in it for a reward. Had to laugh when I heard about that American woman being 'accidently' shot by her Lab on a hunting trip last year. More like she was slow with its treats...

Did you hear about the zoo owner who wanted to sell his zoo but he couldn't, so he had to say that the zoo still had a place in the world?

And by owner I mean Klopp, by zoo I mean Sturridge and by place in the world I mean Anfield after the transfer window closes and he's had no takers. Just in case you missed that.

    Happy Birthday Studge!:emoticon-0166-cake:

I guess that's the real reason Wenger didn't sign him. Didn't want to buy him a b'day pressie.
