That is the best analogy of Spurs summer transfers 2011 to now
that anyone will ever put up.

Reckon Damiao will sign for us before N'koudou does.

    In the bank.

We mock Arsenal but they spend a lot more on transfers and wages than us.

The thing about Mourinho - love him (unlikely) or hate him (probably)- is that he gets his transfer business done early. And he usually gets his targets.

The worst ever late transfer business was Moyes buying Fellaini in desperation for more than his buyout clause. Crazy

And at such cheap prices too.
If only he was manager of a big club with a vast budget.

It kind of helps when you have a bottomless pot of gold.

We mock them because despite the above and their owners' ever-increasing
cash pile, it takes all that to frequently get to the last game of the season
before finishing one place above Spurs.

Last summer with Berahino was the real eye-opener for me. The summer prior to that we were still reeling from the shambles of Baldini's funfair and kept a very low profile in the window.

What changed forever last year was, as I've mentioned previously, the fact that 'small' clubs can no longer be bullied into submission by playground bullies waving dollar bills at them. It contrasted frighteningly with 2012/13 when we signed Fulham's two best players very late on in the window (Aug 29th and 31st respectively) simply because "we're Tottenham f***ing Hotspur and you're relegation fodder desperate for cash so cough up or jump in the Thames". Dembele and Dempsey were two signings most fans were cautiously optimistic about and can probably in a sense be seen as even more successful 'last rounds gentlemen' business than VDV.

That simply doesn't happen any more. Look at how many clubs have told the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool etc. to kindly piss off. We mocked Peace last year but in a way the man was absolutely right. In bygone eras, a club like WBA would've hungrily taken £20m and used it to tape up the leaks in the dressing room showers. Nowadays, they receive that kind of money and immediately set about reinvesting it in the squad. Why? Because they can afford to. Rondon and Lambert were never viable replacements for a player with Berahino's skill set; they are completely different players! A couple of years ago, West Brom would've put up or shut up, taken the money, and simply 'made do' for a year praying that their utterly finesse-less battering rams up front would keep them in the PL for another season. They don't have to shut up anymore, and they aren't.

Look at Palace with Bolasie. We want £30m. Everton: we'll give you £20m maybe £22m if you're civil. Palace: kindly f*** off back to Merseyland, we want £30m or the bugger ain't going anywhere. Everton: How dare you talk to us like that! Haven't you heard - we've been in this here playground since the first day it opened. Only 6 teams in the whole country can claim such nobility! Now, we'll make this simple for you newbies. £24m or you can piss off back to the Championship where you riffraff belong. Palace: We'll try that again in that funny accent of yours: Chindlay foooch oorf he isn't going anywhere unless you up the ante. Everton: FINE then bloody cockney bastards! You can have £25m up front plus £3m inital add ons and another £2m if all goes to plan. Palace: Done. Ta very much. Now if you'll excuse us, we're off to blow this money on cocaine, hookers and Christian Benteke. Everton: But wait...aren't you massively in debt? Palace: No you mugs, TV money solved that ages ago. W***ers.

Or like us with Palace just recently: We'll give youse £15m for Zaha. Palace: Go f*** yourselves. Spurs: **retreats meekly, tail between legs. muffled cheers in the background as Spurs fans celebrate**

What window did i get wrong?

    I said this:
"Last time we got CL it was my opinion we wasted the opportunity with our transfer dealings"

And i already explained, we should have proactively spent the money we knew was coming in from the CL

You have reportedly upped the bid for Zaha to £18M. But they want £25M!

Ok, so this window isn't the greatest so far, or until James and Isco arrive tomorrow, but by my reckoning this has been the best transfer thread we've ever had. Some really top-quality Spurs self-deprecating discussion :emoticon-0148-yes:

We have also reportedly ended our interest in Zaha. Thank you to all gods wherever you may be.

Get a big breakfast in you and get to work.

hoping to see James and Isco in by tonight.

I suggest you compare our spending with Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U, Man City and Arsenal against the number of points everyone got last year and then see who is looking silly.
We offered what we thought Berahino was worth and didn't get him and didn't waste money on some futile back up who would be worse than no-one. That isn't silly it's sensible
