http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football...gue-to-consider-celtic-and-rangers-for-inclu/ English Football League to consider Celtic and Rangers for inclusion in new 'fifth division' Shaun Harvey, the English Football League chief executive, says that his members will decide whether Celtic and Rangers can join a new ‘fifth division’ planned for the start of the 2019-2020 season. The 72 EFL clubs are being asked for their opinions on how the Football League expands to four divisions of 20 teams each, as part of the ‘Whole Game Solution’. The two Scottish clubs have long been considered a possibility for the new ‘fifth division’ and Harvey says the final decision will be down to his members. “We have recently gone out to our clubs to elicit their further views in relation to any different number of areas from the proposition that was first put forward. Once we have their views we can move forward,” he said.
I'd like to see them invited in, if only because there's only one nailed on promotion spot to the football league proper, so if they were starting in the Conference one of them would have to go through the playoffs. It would totally kill Scottish football unless they left a Colts side in the SPL, but they'd lose a lot of money from not qualifying for Europe and their players wouldn't be happy flying to Dover and Torquay in December.
The Glasgow clubs are not going to risk needing at least 4 seasons of promotions & loss of revenue for the length of time.. besides they'd both make it to the Championship but then it gets hard..
Shall we invite Barca, AC, Inter & Real in too? Why should we have to endure them? It's not our fault they're Scottish, **** 'em.
As the SNP are angling for a break away from the UK would that mean Rangers/Celtic playing all their away matches abroad? Just a thought as it would mean all the English club players needing passports with them to play in Scotland.
Every ****ing few years this comes up, "can Rangers & Celtic come out to play?" No **** OFF! FOR ****S SAKE, if they want to come & play in England, start where every other team starts, in the lowest possible league, if they're successful then they'll get promoted & end up in the conference regardless. Why the **** should they be allowed to join to take 2 teams who have fought their way to the conference only to be told no Rangers & Celtic are coming straight in! Scarborough went out of business & had to start in as low as they could go, they're making a fist of it. Ferriby have managed to get to the conference why are they any different. AFC Wimbledon another example. **** off to them, if they want to come, bottom league, it would be the same if any professional team went bust so why should they be any different?
as several have said, this comes up every several years and isn't going to happen, for a variety of reasons. scottish football would suffer for one, but more importantly is the historic accident of the united kingdom having four teams for what many consider to be one country. having the top two scottish teams play in england could jeopardise that. a uk national team should be stronger than any of the national teams, but it would mean three less votes on various committees, something a number of other countries would welcome.
Yeah i did mean the Conference title... It could happen, but they have to start as a new club in the English tier. Simple as. Fasttrracking them to 'Division 5' or higher would be a disgrace.
