It's the way we are setting up for games and playing. It's a big concern.

 

Midway (1950) and I are old fogies who can fall back on years of heartache and frustration, I am very happy with things at our club atm, would love to see us playing better but in no way encourage people to set up a poisonous atmosphere at CR, that is totally counter productive!

Well in terms of management what did he do ? He picked up a team built by someone else, which was under performing and got a new manager bounce. But he pretty much used up all that credit by his performance last season, which was not great.

 

But that's not the only problem. It might be useful if he got some of the quality players he has performing better.

 

Not sure he's scored many in the last couple of seasons has he?

 

I expect Murphy to play a bit part. He has been bought to give a tactical option they didn't really have before. Him alongside Gayle is a great bigman small man combo at this level. We couldn't win a header all game against him in the derby. I would have been very happy for us to have spent £3m on him, for one he for one season could give us value for that and it might have been a player we could have actually got over the line. 1950 you're making a number of points about how we are being unrealistic in our expectations of the board. But their role is to identify realistic targets and get them signed. They are quite simple not very good at doing this, what ever the reasons that players courted by our recruitment team have for not joining we have continually failed to understand, heed or remedy them.
I don't understand how you can really stand up for our recruitment efforts over these last two summer windows?

I'm not sure how old you 2 are, but I had a season ticket for many Championship season, then league 1, then Prem, then Championship again.

I've been there when "Chase out" was going on, I've been through a lot of ups and downs, league and finance.

I might not be as old as you, but I've been through the emotions, I thought we were going into administration a couple of seasons.

I'm not out side the "Happy with our club compared to.."

I've said many times on here I am proud of our club and what it tries to do within the restrictions.

Like I said we are one of the big fish, but we spend and scout like a side who just came up from League 1. But they still expect a promotion.

 

That's not what it's all about. Yes he has scored a lot of important goals. But looks at Nelson. Why the F*ck are we buying him for more than Murphy, when he has scored so, so many less. Waste of money yea?

Or is it his all round game and the ability to hold the ball, take on players and create things? Suddenly different?

Same kind of player, but Murphy scores more, but we spent more. Sounds like a waste of money now. I wish we hadn't bothered.

 

There's the problem fml, you think we're one of the big fish but we definitely aren't. We have to cut our cloth according to our means or we'd very soon be out of business!

 

By financial definition. We are. By our reputation reach and financial clout.

We have just been a team in the top division and got all that money.

.....Easy way of saying "I can't answer that" a player who scored and played class to get a sh*t team to in or around the play offs. Or a player who has scored about 5 goals in the past few seasons.

So coz he's younger and never played for Ipswich he's a better player?! no matter how many goals he's scored as a striker at all his clubs?

 

Then take a minute or 2 to think.

 

We were bidding inxs of £11m for McCormack who was 29 going on 30. We didn't get it done and one of the few bigger fish pinched him. But how many other sides in the championship could or would have been trying to make that signing? 2-4 other clubs maybe. We are a big, well financed fish whilst we still have our parachute. We Are failing to take advantage of it.

Some of the people on here, I'm close to giving up on.

And it goes both ways. Some are so negative they are unreachable. but some are so blindly loyal, they do the same. So the sh*t you get for going either way!

I have said many times, I agree with certain points from both sides, but I don't want AN out.

Ok mate. 3M is a waste of money for a striker who bullies defences, scores goals, and leads a totally sh*t team built on a tiny budget to get in or around the playoffs in this league. That we are now playing in, every year. Yea?

We have just spent over 4M on a player who's scoring record, and success of getting teams into the play offs every year is poor. infact, Forest were crap last year. Even with a lot of class players. and he scored under double figures. Yea?...Thinking at all?

But yet,it's exciting that we paid over 4M for a non scoring striker. Yet 3M is a waste of money for what Murphy has done the past few seasons. It's a better buy because he's young? yea?

Good and fair point that we are one of the bigger clubs in this division, and have the financial clout to compete with every club. But, that doesn't mean we should pay over the odds e.g. McCormack, nor does it mean we should come over all angry and upset when another club has the audacity to sign a **** player e.g. Murphy.

Newcastle have an obvious strategy this window i.e. keep a core group of players, but sell a lot and buy a lot. It will net them a great deal of money but also still leave them with a fantastic team. But, they spent about £100m on players last season, so not really playing in the same financial league as we are.

Our strategy is keep almost all our players, and just add a couple of key new ones. Canos, Pritchard and Oliveira look like good business, so it's just the final piece of the jigsaw that's needed - one more striker.
