"Next Bale for Scotland" and the list of Clubs who wanted him was pretty impressive. I've not heard much about him before this transfer.

The conversation is going a bit like this:

AN: Jez/Ed, how are the new enquires going? Are we close?

    Jez/Ed: Errrrr no, not really.

AN: Shall we start calling all the PL teams seeing if they have any youngsters or out of favour strikers on high wages that they want to ship out on loan?

Ed/Jez: Errrrr yes. Do you have their numbers?

AN: I will check the yellow pages.

It might be the weather out here - it hasn't rained since July 11th and since then has been over 30 degrees every day - or it might be my increasing annoyance at the negativity on here that has kept me quiet but here goes. FFS some of you need to get a grip. Sack the Manager, the Scouts, the Coaches, the Board, the Tealady !!! Drop a player who, potentially, is the best we have had for years. I have only seen the 2 matches on Sky and, IMO, the highlight in both games was the link up play between Wes and Naismith - a view shared by the little coverage given in the French media and the small amount of UK coverage I bother with. Why is nothing being done to sign strikers? Which one of you moaning minnies has access to the inner workings at Carrow Road? Nobody? - I thought so. This is not an informed link but I would bet that you would get a shock if you could see the guest list at Park Farm for the last few weeks. Everybody is looking for strikers and the prices are ridiculous. £3m for 33yo Murphy!! The French media are wetting themselves at the prices being paid by English Clubs. Southampton have just paid £16m for a striker from Lille who Nice nearly bought In January for 1.5m Euros. Where are we going to get a 20 goal a year striker, who contributes to the team as well, for a sensible price. The likes of McCormack and Rhodes put the ball in the net but does it bring success for their Clubs? It doesn't and that is why they haven't ever played in the Premiership. We will have to gamble on whoever we buy and such a decision takes careful analysis to try and prevent another RVW or Hooper. Whittaker is 3rd choice fullback - it is just bad fortune that Pinto, Martin and Olssen are injured at the same time - and Turner is 5th choice CB. They both played regularly last year in the Premiership or Championship and are both on 12 month contracts. What better players are going to want to come here to fill those roles only suitable for players reaching the end of their careers? Like it or not we are in the Championship and last years squad have got to get used to that, the new players have got to fit in and the youngsters have to be given time to adjust to the step up in their careers. Are we bottom of the league several points adrift of safety? No!! We were beaten for the first time on Saturday, are one win off the top 2 and 1 point off the top 6. We are in the Championship at a time when it is the most competitive for years. There are far bigger Clubs than us in there with far deeper pockets and more appeal to prospective signings and their wives. Anybody who thinks we should expect to walk into automatic promotion is - let me put it kindly - misguided. AN is a good Manager and has not become a bad Manager overnight. Naismith is a class player and has not become a bad player overnight. Just get off their backs !! There are 20 teams in the Premiership and a hell of a lot of Clubs trying to get there. No matter what criteria you use Norwich City are not one of the biggest 20 Clubs in the land and as such our record in the last few years is very commendable. We will not get promotion in the near future if we start sacking Managers, booing players and start spending money we haven't got. At the very least can we wait and see where the squad is on Thursday morning and where the Team is in January.

    What a marvellous rant!
Generally agree, there is a lot of knee jerking going on.
I don't recall hearing too many calls for Benitez to be sacked after Newcastle lost their first two games, so I think we can afford to be patient and see where we are at the half way stage.
And you're right, there are probably somewhere around 30 teams who regard themselves as Premier League of which we are one.

A few blunt performances and an embarrassing result and performance Saturday. It's still only one defeat.

Supposedly Mulumbu has travelled to Turkey for talks over a potential move. Can we afford to lose a central midfielder?

Did you know that Bryant and May used to have a huge Poplar tree plantation near Shippea Hill for the production of wood for their matches ?

Hmmm, although he's hardly set the world alight for us, I think we're a bit short in terms of defensive midfield.

You make some good points but it doesn't change just how badly our board have performed thus far in this window. A striker (two really) was the only priority they have dallied and failed till the eleventh hour. Can you honestly say our manager would be happy to have not got a striker by this stage? Has the manager got eat he needs to do his job?
There is little need to panic granted. But our manager and board have given us plenty to be concerned with. AN has not shown any great evidence of learning from last seasons failings, nor have the board from previous transfer window inadequacies.
We are merely concerned about these things. If you are not i would suggest you are rather too easily pleased or just don't care how we do because what will be will be? That maybe true but the "will be" could be allot better if we had a tiny bit of ambition and no use in these windows

    Bah!

I don't see so much knee jerking, I see a few with their heads in the sand. AN has been given more than his fair share of slack. Benitez nearly kept Newcastle up, AN on the other hand seemed to get us relegated when we had a better than fair chance of staying up. Personally I only got off the fence on Saturday, I now think we've got a better chance of going back up with a new manager, rather than keeping the one we've got. Most managers in the Championship would swap their squad for ours at a drop of the hat, so whilst I accept the players and others have to take there share of the blame most of our current issues seem to be caused by managerial decisions. The most annoying thing for me about AN is seem unable to learn from experience and seems to be repeating many of last seasons error's. I accept that he's a young manager and will make mistakes, I don't mind that, but failing to learn lessons from the past is unacceptable. 1950 states that AN is a good manager, well other than his success at Hamilton there isn't a lot of evidence that I've seen to support that.

Has this Portugeezer signed or not? I can't find any pics of him holding up the shirt or quotes saying 'how happy he is to be here '

He's signed but they can't announce it till the paperwork is finalised at FL because it's bank holiday!

Isn't the very definition of making a knee jerk reaction the type of response to one game that we're now seeing?

I see it another way. After growing doubts throughout last season and now this season. I walould call it the straw that broke the camels back. I don't necessarily feel certain AN will fail, I just have arrived at a point where I believe evidence points to it.
I.e. I wasn't calling for his head after the previous disappointing performances last season and those so far this season, I entertained it at the end of last but thought he deserved another shot. But I stated I would need to see evidence of learning from last season and a good start to this season. Not just in points but performance and that we looked like we had a plan and were building. Not seeing it yet, are you?

    Bah!

It's definitely a big worry. I haven't lost all faith in him. I still believe in him, but the next match has to be a performance and 3 points. He needs to show he has got a massive reaction out of the squad and sorted some issues out.
