just cos it's another bank holiday over there in lazy land, doesn't mean you can't post. It's not confined to just when you're at work and skiving time off. Anyway, to matters footie, Monk hopeful of shifting a few out in next few days and bringing a few in. Does anyone believe we'll be able to a. Shift any deadwood b. Bring in real quality in last two days of window or c. Will it make any difference to the catastrophic set piece defending that is in danger of derailing our season if not fixed quickly

    Morning Eire, morning all.

If we do shift anyone out and manage to bring anyone else in we need it to be someone who is streets ahead of what we have. We need another first name on the team sheet type player who will be played in their preferred position.

I was thinking about this the other day, what midfielder/position do we need to sign? Hernandez is lost out wide so do we sign another player who is a dedicated wide midfield player and considering we have Dallas is it wasting money?

Do we switch to 4-2-3-1 and if so where are we lacking, what player or position do we need to make it click?

I'm just feeling a little bewildered this morning as I can't remember the last time we signed so many decent players and we just can't seem to fit them into a formation or system.

    Morning Eire,

Lets talk about the dead wood.

    Here's my list...

We need to shift a keeper.

We have Peacock Farrell, Green, Silvestri and Turnbull.

I know Forest are waiting in the wings, very ken on Turnbull.

I'd actually get rid of Bamba. Some would say over the course of the season, he will play his part, but he is too prone to mistakes. I do not know what Monl was thinking making him Captain...

Midfielders, I'd send Grimes back down to Swansea, release Dave and Murphy and am torn on Dallas...

We only have 4 forwards. Antonsson who I see as being our first choice striker, Doukara, Sacko and Wood.

Sacko has pace, and is quick with his feet, so he's in. Doukara runs his socks off and holds the ball up.

What the fook does Wood do?

If we can find a good replacement, and if we got an offer of 1.5m for Wood, I'd snap their hands off...

Morning ristac, There were strong hints about a central midfielder and a forward. Personally, we need a Captain who can marshall our back four.

Apparently Dallas is still getting over the Euro's.

Every season we talk about getting rid of deadwood and strengthening the team.

Murphy, Dallas, Bamba, Wood - They were all excellent signings at the time, many of us were wetting ourselves about the prospect of what they will offer and several months on we call them deadwood.

    What goes wrong?

Next season when we have another new coach wishing to make his mark will Ayling, Berardi or Coyle be the deadwood? Who else will we add to that list, Cooper, Hernandez, Roofe?

It's okay saying get shot of them but how much would they cost to replace assuming you could move them on?

Wood, who would you replace him with, teams are not going to sell their best strikers and if they did we can't go out spending £10m

Murphy and Doukara were told they can go, now Doukara seems to have a future again, how many more times are we going to throw him on the scrap heap then decide you know what, maybe he has something to offer.

What grates me is when we sign a player or have a player on the books who is a certain position but "can" play another, we always seem to put them in that "other" position.

Wootton a CB who can play RB.
Roofe a striker who can play on the wing
Doukara a striker who can play wide
Hernandez an attacking midfield player who can play wide
Mowatt CM player can play wide...

We do it all the time, remember Peltier playing everywhere across the back line. Aidy white a LB or was he attacking LM and Sam Byram.

I like having a player who can play out of position in an emergency but not if it isn't.

Moving on to Green... I thought what a genius move, I was wrong. If Monk stubbornly continues to play him it will be a nail in his coffin.

If Monk continues to contradict himself with excuses for Hernandez not being 100% fit hence the poor show (nothing to do with being out of position then) yet Pontius can't play yet as he isn't 100% match fit that will be another nail.

We now have two weeks on the training ground to get things right. If we have players not fit and if we still can't defend a set piece next game out I will be jumping off the fence.

For the first time since he has taken over the club I actually feel for Cellino a bit. He has invested in the team, he has given Monk all the tools he needs to do the job and we're not looking very good.

Morning all from the last day of my hols in Spain. Main concern for me is that Monk was always a 4-2-3-1 set up, he's signings seemed to suggest that formation and he switches to 4-4-2, why?
Agree with Ristac on players that 'can' play in different positions, are stock piling jack of all trades and masters of none?

Even I couldn't blame Cellino based on figures going back to 2004/5 and including many an excursion to the premier league and fall back down.

i have been waiting for someone to make this point <ok>

    why
because i have known about cellino for a long time now and this period in time is the first time ever i can remember cellino actually doing nothing, saying nothing, keeping out of the picture, and letting the manager actually manage <ok>
He has done this last couple of months what you all wanted (not interfered) he has given funds to monk, listened to monk, and to the best of my knowledge,
    supported monk <ok>

    all i will add is
if this all goes tits up expect cellino to throw it all in your face and continue in the same old same old <yikes>

but for now IMHO and i never ever thought i would be saying this but cellino is actually being a good boy <ok>

Ristac, that post perfectly sums up the stupidity in constantly changing managers / coaches so no continuity as all want different players and was the reason I would have given Evans the season to add to what he started <ok>
