Maybe. Maybe not. At least they would start at the bottom. Shaun Harvey, the English Football League chief executive, says that his members will decide whether Celtic and Rangers can join a new ‘fifth division’ planned for the start of the 2019-2020 season. The 72 EFL clubs are being asked for their opinions on how the Football League expands to four divisions of 20 teams each, as part of the ‘Whole Game Solution’. The two Scottish clubs have long been considered a possibility for the new ‘fifth division’ and Harvey says the final decision will be down to his members. “We have recently gone out to our clubs to elicit their further views in relation to any different number of areas from the proposition that was first put forward. Once we have their views we can move forward,” he said. please log in to view this image Shaun Harvey CREDIT: ACTION IMAGES “One of the simple questions is, if this is to proceed, is where should the [new] teams come from? So the only ones who will decide that are the clubs themselves, so we will see what they say. I don’t want to pre-empt anything.”

The Jocks can go forth and multiply, there are enough semi professional clubs within England who would love to get into the lower reaches of the football league. Time to heighten Hadrians wall.
but it'll never happen whilst Scotlands independence is still on the agenda surely? if they gained independence then they'd have to rejoin Scottish football.
I have to say I think Celtic & Rangers would be assets to the league, as long as it's done right and they have to work there way to the top. They are far greater clubs than Cardiff, Swansea and Newport who we allow in the league.
I'd be up for Rangers and Celtic to be in the English league. They'd need to start at the bottom in order to keep it fair but they'd offer a lot to us.
Sturgeon would have a fit - get them in!!!!!!! Can't see it happening though as it would mean no European football for at least 5 years and probably in reality much longer.
I'm a bit nationalistic when it comes to this. Swansea, Cardiff etc shouldn't have been allowed in the English League. Berwick should be in an English League. Whether it would be good for English football or not Rangers and Cetic are in Scotland and that's that. Tough titties!
I'd prefer to keep Rangers and Celtic and their political/religious nonsense out of the English league personally.
Oh I agree Welsh clubs should play in the Welsh league, but they don't, so why wouldn't Rangers & Celtic be welcome? I can't see a single person being able to justify the size and passion of those 2 clubs being able to enhance our league. I've been to Celtic a few times and it's a special experience. We would take 10,000 to Glasgow for those 2 games make no mistake. Independence and politics have little bearing on sport for me.
That's the best argument, I have seen put forward yet. I'm against them coming in, but now I'm not so sure
Allow Rangers and Celtic in our league? What about Hearts, Hibs, Dundee's, Aberdeen? Allow them in as well? Or leave them be and let them rot?
Personally I can't see how they can be denied with all the welsh teams we have. May as well let them put the final nail in Scottish football's coffin. Look how healthier Welsh football is afterall.
