If Moyes thinks he can do a job for us then I think this is a good move. I like the idea of bringing in promising players from lower down the leagues. Hopefully, this means that Khazri and/or Lens gets moved in to the Number 10 role. Khazri did it there for Bordeaux and I don't want to see Lens sold- there's a good player in there and he looked like he wanted to compete when he came on against Boro

I can understand people's concerns about signing players from lower leagues as we've been burned before but for one thing this lad is known to be highly rated and for another Moyes is supposed to be good at picking players like this who will be a success in the prem. Until Moyes makes a purchase in the transfer market to make me question his sanity then I'm perfectly happy to put my faith in his decisions.

Exactly. Before the the influx of foreign players that's how things were done. There must have been a few lower league players capable of making the step up who have missed their chance because an established player was brought in from abroad instead. We might be getting a gem

Looks like Spurs want him now as Palace will not sell them Zaha. So we can forget this one.

    Cheers mate.

Stones was a young lad who had just broken through?

What it shows is, regardless of age, Moyes can spot a player from the Championship that can step up and excel in the Premier league.

We had cheap, ****, Irish signings. Hardly compares to Coleman at 60 grand who is a quality player probably valued at 25 million, now.

You musn't rely so heavily upon conventional wisdom. Do you know who Phil Jackson is?

I've just googled and he is something to do with Basketball.

Can you explain how Everton could have built Moyes into a top 6 manager?

Possibly in two ways: firstly they were in **** creek financially and looking into the abyss when he arrived from doing a good long term job building a team at PNE. Secondly, he and the then owner. Bill Kenwright, laid the strategy of slowly building a team bought on the cheap but talented enough to survive in the Prem. It was steady away at first but to take the leap forward into buying internationals they sold Wayne Rooney to finance it. Brave move at the time.

They achieved this goal and Everton had some good years under him with a top four finish and a cup final to show for it. All done on a shoe string at first, but it was progressed over time. He was pencilled in for ManU way ahead of Mourinho but his sin was to fail with an elderly team.

Since leaving Everton, he basically can't keep a job. His long tenure at Everton is the basis for his reputation, but even at Everton results from one year to next varied greatly. It is entirely possible that the successes he is credited with were created by other factors within the Everton organization, Lets say a moneyball stat guru from the London School of Economics, or a particularly insightful scout, a clever assistant, dumb luck, state of the art physical training, or even Tim Howard.

You're breaking a British sport and culture into American paradigms which isn't going to wash.

Moyes had a pretty ****ty assistant at Everton.

Moyes put his scouting team in place and then selected who he wanted from their talent pool.

Moyes got the best out of Tim Howard. Not the other way round.

I take your point that everything came together for him but he was the man who put it all in place and needs credit for that.

This lad has signed for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga! Bizarre one, but they paid 13 mill for him, according to Sky.... plenty were after him.

It looks as if as a quid pro quo for Januzaj we had to buy the useless McNair and Love. Hopefully they are not on high wages and we can unload them easily
