Rangers defeat last night has hit Celtic financially. Now that we've dropped into the Europa Cup, Scotland's share of the kitty will have to be shared amongst Rangers, Celtic and Hearts (if they beat Paks). Had Rangers qualified for the CL, Celtic would have got all the filthy lucre to themselves if Hearts don't qualify.
Europa League money is a pittance compared to Champions League money ... It's like EPL cash via SPL cash! Supposedly most clubs lose out finacially in the Europa League until you hit the quarter finals.
Yeah, but if Rangers had got through to the CL group stage you'd be pocketing £12 - £15m while Celtic and Hearts would be doing well to get £2 - £3m.
Why do you want your rival team to get games that will net them a good few million and allow them more scope for strenthening their squad? I hope Rangers get stuffed before the groups it is for Celtic's benefit!
If only one team gets to the group stages, do they not get all the TV money? Coefficient goes up if we all go through, more money to your team if they're the only team through. Swings and roundabouts and petty points to be scored all round. I hope all 3 make it and, over and above the coefficient, it'll make this season much more interesting
Well I think for next season we have 2 CL places again, but both need to play qualifiers. I would want all Scottish teams to progress in Europe simply to keep those places, and hopefully get back to having at least one automatic qualifier to the group stages
I seem to recall Sir Walter saying that we'd basically need to win the Europa Cup to get the same money as qualifying for the group stages of the CL.
I think if we keep ****in up we'll be be lucky to even get qualifying places for the Europa League never mind champions league... And who wants that, it's pish!!
But the co-efficient takes another knock and in 2 years time the league winner will have to start off again in the early rounds of the CL qualifiers.
