I know we are only 3 games in and friendlies don't count, but we also looked as clueless vs Espanyol and Bilbao. Also, Redmond looked sooooo much better playing just off the striker in the last 10 minutes rather than dropping deep or acting as target man furthest forward. He can play centrally, but I would say either as top of the diamond or in the whole behind 1 up front.
Yep. I said it at HT. There was no need to make any substitutions at HT, we had all the right tools on the pitch and weren't losing the match. We just needed to rearrange those tools into a better system.
I've just watched the Saints interviews on YouTube. The contrast between these two answers is quite striking: Saints Interviewer: What were your thoughts on today's game? Puel: Yes. In this moment often it is the same analysis. It was a good game for us, just lacked goals. Saints Interviewer: What are your thoughts on today's game. Van Dijk: Not good enough.
Okay, here's a few; Hojberg had a few periods when he bossed it. We were much better in the 2nd half, so something must have been said at HT and it worked. Each of our substitutions worked. VvD was immense. Jay scored. Heads did not go down at 0-1, and after the equaliser we were arguably unlucky not to get the winner. That showed character. I'll reserve judgement on "the system" as the players are still learning what the cosches expect of them. I will not reserve judgement on the arseholes who booed. They can **** off, all of them. I don't care if they've paid their money - where were they when we were in Lg1? Not at St Marys I bet.
Last second of the first half then Gary Jones from 25 yards in front of the Northam. Don't even have to look it up.
I will reserve judgement until transfer window is shut and Puel has had a couple more months to implement tactics etc. Think it will get better with a player like Boufal, but I also think we should still be after Stanciu, who will be more suitable to possession football. Tadic God bless him, is not a number 10, and goes missing for to much of the game when playing there in my opinion.
God do I remember that. Went with a work colleague and 6 of his mates from Richdale. They were singing the circus act song to the Ox who had a stinker that day. But then I also was there on a Tuesday night when Rkchdale also done us 2-0 again at their place. Ah the good old days.
Agreed. Tadic is a far more potent weapon out on the left, watching us today I was just wishing we were playing 4-3-3 with the players we have. Redmond in behind two strikers looked good. The formation isn't getting the best out of our players at the minute so something has to change, new players or new style. The midfield was non-existent. Two come-from-behind draws and a loss isn't a great start but it is only a start. Thought Prowsey was good when he came on too and I think it would be unfair to write him off altogether because of a poor first game. Saw people on Twitter writing things like "Please God not Ward-Prowse" which is ****ing unreal.
