Romeu is just playing poorly. So are Cedric and Fonte. Too much space on the flanks was a problem at times in the last two games, but for the most part I feel like today we've had covering players, they've just been screwing up. Targett has been okay today, forcing players out. But we are getting killed on the right, and also not tight enough on crosses.

We can win this game. Just need to tighten up at the back.

I really miss the pressing game. Too much ponderous passing, too much benign possession.

Agreed - we need a formation that gives us two to sit in front of the back four and provide some width to stretch the opposition defence and it suits the players we have.

Yeah he looks overrun and making silly mistakes but is forced to stay central because he is only holding midfielder. But the fullbacks have no support going forward or defensively without sacrificing a midfielder to go wide/forcing Austin&Redmond to defend. Not Fonte's best game.

Planning to watch U23 side against Sunderland tomorrow at Hetton. Could be seeing two defeats in one weekend. Get it sorted Saints!

I think that would give us a much better shape.

Trying to thread the ball through the middle just isn't going to work against this Sunderland side. Would love a winger to whip it in off the flank instead *sigh*

Thanks, Borini. You really didn't need to do that.

It's not going to work against most sides. Not from static positions...they have far too much time to react to those 25 yard passes through the middle.

Agreed. Of course the weirdest thing about that is that we have two pretty good wingers on the pitch.

Lee Mason doing the 'alternative' style of refereeing today.
