I think most of you would consider this a fortunate point? I don't think we were brilliant at all but done enough for the 3pts, oh well.
I thought we had the better of the second half. Well done to MP for sorting the team out at half time.
I'd have settled for that, at the start of the match. Our forwards, like last season, are starting very slowly, and we look loose and disjointed in midfield. 'Pool could be dangerous this season, so a draw probably won't prove to be too shabby, at this early stage of the season.
Looking at the stats Liverpool only had 2 more shots than us and we got more on target, so who knows what you were actually doing with the ball. The disallowed goal was rightly given offside on Lallana.
Well a fortunate penalty has given Liverpool one goal in two matches and Spurs' forwards are lifeless. I haven't a clue what either team will do this season although a defeat might wake Spurs up.
Pochettino seems to be ok with us building into the season, I'd like to see us get a flyer one year but it ain't this year again. Our bench needs strengthening and we're a poor imitation of the side with Mousa it. No to Diet and Santana to start games at home. If Winks isn't ready then we should be out shopping tomorrow.
Still in 2nd gear aren't we? Slow starters as usual. Apologies for the bad language when they scored...but that was soft. Think we will find gear 3 soon enough. Coys.
Liverpool did to us exactly what we'd done to so many last season so I'm not surprised we struggled, as we all know how effective that tactic can be when it goes off well. Klopp set them up very well to exploit the way we play. I thought throughout that Liverpool were pretty dominant but that we came back into it and had 5 minute spells here and there where we penned them in and really pressed on for a change. Ref had a dodgy game with some odd, inconsistent decisions and 50/50s going both ways. My concerns are: we look unable to take control of a midfield without Dembele Kane likes this whole 'give everyone else a head start for the Golden Boot' game far too much you'd think the Dier/Wanyama partnership would be defensively solid but its not quite as solid as you'd think Eriksen has been poor by his standards but I'm not sure Poch trusts anyone else to start in his place we lack incisiveness, though we did at times too last season Given how the game panned out we'll look at that as a good point I think. We need an attacking player to add a little something more in the 3 behind the striker and a midfielder who can take control. Doesn't have to be physical like Dembele but needs to be able to run the engine room. The latter is far trickier to buy than the former.
The second 'goal' was not given in the first place so it cannot have been disallowed. In addition to that the 'scorer' should not have been on the pitch
Dembele is back soon. That's who we were missing to drive like a beast from the middle. That centre circle was devoid of white shirts.
what annoyed me somewhat was our passing in the 2nd half, it was awful full stop, also your midfield bullied us physically all game, i would like us to have that "nasty streak" so to speak as that whats unsettled us and led to your good spell in the 2nd half and then goal.
We were out chased for certainly the majority of the first half and looked exposed at times throughout. However, the decisions not to card Mane either for the first foul on Rose or the latter one both happened before the Vertinghen incident so I have no doubt that playing against 10 would have changed their strategy. We are a long way from the best form of last year and the form of Eriksen in particular is concerning especially as he had a full summer off. However, all is not doom and gloom: Janssen looks decent, as does Wanyama and Vorm has shown what a top keeper he is. We have not missed Lloris so far. I would also not be too critical of the Dier/Wanyama partnership. They only had 15 mins today before Eric ended up at RB.
The nasty streak at Spurs now is something I like and something we aren't particularly used to seeing after being a bunch of pussies for 20 years. Alli has a nasty streak. He left a knee in on someone on the floor today and regularly gets in little spats. Rose, while not necessarily dirty, flings himself around, so much so that sometimes I feel he's gonna injure himself. If Diego Costa wasn't in the league I'd have Vertonghen up there as one of the players that gets away with the most. He's so secretly dirty I think. Anyone who can literally pull someone's shorts down to their ankles in the middle of the penalty box and still not be called up for a foul has to have someone looking over him for example. You see less extreme examples every game. Lamela and Dier will mix it too. Toby is too good to have to but probably could
Farcical that Mane remained on the pitch, he should and could have received a second yellow twice, as was the lack of a penalty for Matip`s rugby tackle in the penalty area. All of which was conveniently overlooked by the Pool loving media in the Scouse Sports studios and gantry, while at the same time they found plenty of time to talk about a correctly disallowed Pool goal for offside. I thought it was an even game, even against the 12 men of Pool, they bossed the first half and we bossed the second. Up against most other teams we would have been given a penalty and been playing against 10 men, but sadly Pool almost always get the benefit of doubt. We were far from our best but it`s a good sign we are picking up points while not at full tilt. I thought the punditry on Sky was horrendously Pool biased (when is it ever not?), they really could do with a clear out and to get in some fresh faces to give an impartial view for once.
A little one eyed to say the least I thought your defenders were quite cynical in their fouling which they largely got a way with. Most of our moves were stopped by your players bringing us down. Kane was chopped almost everytime he received the ball. Despite all that you played well in the first half and probably just merited a point. You look great going forward but it's a different kettle when you are put under pressure. When Klopp sorts out your defence you will be a good team.
