£4m to £5m being quoted for a 33 year old? 10 goals in 35 games last season. Jesus wept, have a think about this one Rafa. Crazy money.
This seems insane to me, absolutely insane. And it's really picking up steam, Sky are reporting on it. Sure we're all fed up of rubbish French players, but what the fck is Daryl Murphy bringing, exactly? He was bang average at Sunderland for 3 YEARS and is now about 6 years older. Seriously, "in Rafa we trust" and all that, but this has Shefqi Kuqi written all over it. At least Shefqi cost nowt. Shola would be a better bet.
He scored 27 the year before last and 13 before that and 10 last year. Is a different option to what we have. Definitely signing for this year only. A lot of money for A 33year old
A very shrewd signing. Murphy will score goals at this level with this team. I was sick of seeing him for Ireland but in our last two games against Italy and France he showed serious balls. He was better than Shane Long for example. He will likely be cover for half the season that Mitrovic is suspended for.
Really? IF the price being quoted is accurate ish ..seems very odd. From no one over 25 to paying a fortune for those under 63 in the space of 6 months assuming its a LOT less than the quotes... might be more for cover and addign striking experience/leadership to our (very) young strike force ( I dont know a lot about him so what I am thinking may well be twaddle)
To be clear, I'm just balking at £5m. It's eye-watering. If it was £0.5m or £500k, then I'd be fine with it; a lot of experience for a pool of young strikers, will add a good 10 goals or so and that's great.
Lee Ryder @lee_ryder 60m60 minutes ago #NUFC definitely on for Daryl Murphy according to club sources
It's not quite Bas Dost or Danny Ings but he will probably "do a job" filling in and getting the odd goal.
It will take all sorts to get out of this league, horses for courses as I see it. If it includes, short term players used to making a living at this level, so what. So Murphy isn't some big name superstar, but if he was, he wouldn't be racking up here at a CHAMPIONSHIP Club. Sure, he wouldn't be many fans first choice, but, if he scores a dozen goals this season, that's all that matters. As Rafa says, he'll provide competition up front. Think of him as more of a Peter Lovenkrands or David Kelly, not a Shefqi Kuqi. As for the money, who really gives a ****. Moan when the Club doesn't spend, and likewise when they do. It really doesn't matter, the money is in the bank. FFS, we're showing a profit on fees and wages, so what's the problem. Go back a couple of months, I remember a few on here whining on about the fee paid for Matt Richie. Looks a snip now doesn't he....
At least he's played and scored goals at this level - less risk overall than another overseas import. Leon Best didn't work out to badly........
Most Ipswich fans don't mind him leaving because we think his best days are behind him. He can still be a handful at this level, holds the ball up well enough but needs runners to feed off his knock downs. If you've got good crossers he may find his scoring touch again too. He only has a year left on his contract and 3m for a 33 year old is good for us and cheap for you. Funnily enough, Leon Best played for our U23s the other day and may be somebody we offer a contract to. Free agent right now.
I don't get this thing where people are concerned about fees? I don't think it's an exciting transfer - just another to get us out of the league.
He will do a job for us mate ..........horrible mid week away games in the winter he will do his job. As for Leon i liked the lad and wish him all the best....no pun intended!
