He'd gotten away from him. At that point you've gotta let him go to a certain extent. Stay too close on his heals and you risk that sort of thing. Walker in the same situation wouldn't have been so close I don't think. Lamela isn't a defender so can't be too harsh on him
I don't think we can complain too much about being behind after a bright start from us we faded quickly and Liverpool started to dominate midfield. I think to some extent our fast start helped Liverpool to find a quick pace to their game. Vorm has been brilliant and that says it all. Bid blow losing Walker but somehow we have to impose ourselves on this game Eriksen needs to get weaving.
Very different incidents but I feel a bit hard done by that Liverpool got a pen there and that we didn't for the incident where Janssen was held. We've picked up a bit since big Vinny came on but we're still getting overrun at times. Dier and Wanyama together hasn't provided the protection you'd think, and neither can grip and control a game like Dembele can. Alli is much more effective further forwards. Unfortunately we don't really have many options there so we just have to persevere and if we get a chance, take it. We can take this to Liverpool but we need to exert pressure and control on their midfield and forwards who have pace and movement enough to cause serious problems. Vorm is having an excellent game though, thankfully.
I do think it's the correct call as Lamela was chasing him down. Total accident, I agree, but players have to be careful with stuff like that, it's a bit clumsy. Not entirely sure the contact with Lamela was actually in the box though. Madeley's a joke though, there was a clear foul on Janssen by Matip which should've given us a penalty and he completely stopped giving us decisions after he bottled the Mane red. Same old, same old for us, we very rarely get any big calls go our way in the biggest games.
I thought we were on top for the last 20 minutes when Janssen came on. Would help our game if the centrebacks got booked, they've been fouling freely to stop our attacks.
I'm watching HT analysis and I'm gonna stick up for the ref in the penalty incidents: Lamela - pen. Unfortunate Janssen - handbags, 6 of one half a dozen of the other Vertonghen - hmm might have been lucky. Not seen a replay that showed if the ball was in play by the time the ref pulled them up
Dont feel too hard done by, we shouldve had another when Vertongen decided to rugby tackle Matip and got a warning for it only.
Funny that you don't see people falling all over the place outside the box do you? If all these "minimal contact" things keep bringing people down it would happen everywhere, but somehow it seems to happen most when there's a penalty available.
The truth is that there is no say we'll score...we have had 1 attempt on target and ain't looked likely to score. Bullshit penalty or not we have looked second best in most areas other than the keepers which tells it's own story imo. Janssen plays well but never looks like scoring and Kane has started this season like last season. Pool will win comfortably as they will simply pick us off on the counter and we will panic as the game goes on. Managed to find an internet connection on holiday and can't say that this is adding to my holiday fun!!! I hate it when our team are called bottlers but we do tend to drop a lot of points in our important matches against top clubs... Leicester Arsenal City united Southampton west ham and liverpool made up the top 8 last year and and if you put chelsea in there it makes 16 matches...out of those matches we won 5 lost 4 drew 7 so out of 48 points we got 19!
