We'll be drawn against Nice, cos Claude. That's how these things work. Prediction... Fiorentina Alkmaar Saints Nice
Poor west ham. On a day of exam results a big fat F. Gives them time now to finalise all those dozens of signings they have been linked with. No big loss, they are as welcome in Europe as Donald Trump
I would hate if saints drew dundalk. I know what a result for them would mean to irish domestic football, both in prestege and money so i would take no pleasure if saints were to win. I really hope they avoid united too.a stadium full of united fans for their home game in dublin would some up the problem irish football faces. 95% of people there would never have been at a league of ireland game before
If/when you see a replay of the Astra goal, make sure to watch out for the West Ham right back / right wing back (on the near side to the camera). Hard to spot as he makes his way VERY slowly back, not bothering ot track the Astra player running through the middle. Then on the next replay (from different angle) you can see him still walking gently back into position as the ball hits the net. Wonderful commitment to the team
Oh West Ham, that is brilliant!! 'How to win away - the European edition' - by Astra Giurgiu Some of the photos of their fans at the end of their game on the BBC feed. Poor fellas. Like me the day I realised there would be no more Baywatch.
Hi Bronze, isn't this catch 22 though for Dundalk? What are their chances of progressing? If it is not strong (and I'm not belittling them) then surely it could be equally as good for League of Irleand football if they get a highly publicised fixture or two against bigger, well known clubs? The media coverage and a packed crowd not only generates more income but also highlights the League of Ireland in terms of coverage. I don't know their crowds but if the hot a very high % of new spectators, surely that's a good thing. If only a small % of those new attendees went to see them again or became adopted fans, that has to be better than no new fans. If they don't get this, how are they ever likely to get new fans into watch them? It sounds a bit like people moaning about "plastic" fans here. The club needs those as much as the loyal ones. Ps. My wanting to draw Dundalk is based solely on ease of getting to game if I can get a ticket. Nothing to do with ease of fixture for the team.
