Sunderland make £8m bid for highly rated Nottingham Forest winger 0 BY ADAM ALLCROFT ON AUG 25, 2016CHAMPIONSHIP, FEATURED, NEWS, NOTTINGHAM FOREST, TRANSFER RUMOUR, TRANSFERS ▼ Scroll for more ▼ ADVERTISEMENT Sunderland have made an £8m bid for Nottingham Forest’s Oliver Burke according to a report on Page 53 of The Sun. The 19-year-old started to break into the Nottingham Forest team last season and impressed with the level of his performances then but has stepped it up again this year now that’s he got a different manager with Philippe Montanier taking charge. This season has seen him score three goals in six appearances and that hasn’t gone unnoticed. The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace have all been reported to be interested in signing Burke but it is Sunderland who have made the first move by making an offer believed to be around £8m. They have been scouting the player in recent weeks and the performances he put in those games impressed their manager David Moyes enough for him to make an offer to sign him. Forest have had a mixed start to Montanier’s first season in charge. They have progressed into the third round of the EFL Cup after beating Doncaster Rovers and Millwall in the earlier rounds and have claimed wins over Wigan Athletic and Burton Albion in the league, though they have also lost to Brighton and Hove Albion and Brentford.
When I saw Burke, I thought you were talking about the person making the link!! Makes no sense to me this one but I'm not the gaffer
Typical ****ing SAFC. Let's patch up & make do with championship ****e. That's the way Ellis you tight wad ****. Hope the ****ing Jocks chuck yer oot yer castle yer ****ing ****er.
Not sure if we really need a winger with Kazhri, Januzaj, Lens and Watmore, surely that money would be better spent on a striker to complement Defoe?
Phillips came from the Championship if I recall and I'm sure there is some gems to be had if you know where to look. We are not in the financial position to match most teams in our league simply because we have over paid when we have bought in the past in both fees and wages that have not delivered value for money.. I thought Big Sam was the man who changed this trend and hopefully Moyes can carry on his work..
I said exactly this on another thread yesterday, utter madness in my view unless this kid is exceptional and can play up front as well.
Moyes built Everton into a top 6 club, using low money signings, including players from the Championship. Jagielka, Cahill, Stones and probably more were from the Championship and they all excelled. He signed Coleman from Ireland for £60,000 and Jon Stones from Barnsley for £1.25m. So far that 1.3m investment, Everton will be getting fees totaling about 70m-75m for them both. He also signed Steven Naismith on a free transfer. I'm not back, I only came to message Bri and seen this. It does my head in when people think 'big players' and big transfer fees, equals success. That has never been the way at Sunderland, our best days under Reid, were built on a low budget. Hope everybody is alright.
Has anyone on here seen him play? IMO if we get him that is a statement for the future - this kid is powerfull and has pace he is a raw diamond that needs cultivated and personally I would be happy if we signed him.
This lad is a very very good player, if we don't sign him now I would put money on one of the big 4 signing him for much bigger money in 6 months time. This is exactly the sort of player we should be going for, not loans of players were developing so other clubs can make a fortune from them. Lets sell Lens who has not done it and buy this lad who might make us some money and gain us some points while doing so.
I get that but we have less than a week to go I would expect to pop on here and see the latest **** now, not have to trawl though 60 Pages to catch up Finger on the pulse my man, finger on the pulse
So right I think instead of winging about our lack of big money signings we should let DM manage and support the players he signs - he's the main man now need to let him manage. ES & DM will sort this mess out soon and have us all flying on our rollercoaster ride
is it worth responding? probably not but hope your well all the same '83. wasn't the case with stones but jagielka had plenty of years under his belt at sheff utd and same goes for cahill at millwall. not quite the same as buying a 17 year old who's just broken through. we had our share of cheap irish signings - darryl murphy and roy o'donovan spring to mind. tho burke does sound promising with those early season stats. i'll reserve judgement. it could go any way if we do sign him.
I'm confused, we already know the answer to this and it was Moyes who turned you lot into a top 6 club. 'Big club' or 'sleeping giant' I've heard all the terms before but it means nowt unless someone does the work, nothing is given to you just because you have a rich history, Sunderland fans know this more than anybody mate.
