Sorry I missed this a couple of days ago: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spor...nderland-hotshot-jermain-defoe-could-11786670 Firstly, I think England have a plethora of talent up front so don't need to recall a player who would be almost 36 by the time the next championships roll around. However, we lack leadership at times and players like Defoe and Noble don't look to me like players who hide in games. More importantly, this good or bad for Sunderland to have him recalled? Almost 34, could do with a break I'd have thought.
This plethora of talent up front did bugger all in the Euros. Maybe Defoe could bring something to the team.
I can't see Rashford being involved in Sam Allardyce's squad, having had no time on the pitch yet, so there's a slot open for a striker there. I wouldn't be averse to this, the lad's a top striker who knows how to finish and has the experience to not lose his head when it matters.
I'd like to add that Allardyce will go way down in my estimations if he continues to pick Raheem Sterling for England like the other ****wit did. That little div needs to earn his place back, he's way, way down the pecking order in my opinion.
The plethora of talent up front failing at the euros led to us losing SA and probably not getting Mvilla signed up. Great believer in developing and using younger talent as our future but Defoe is a proven international goalscorer and has shown he can still do the business in the premiership even at a poor team like us. Deserves a recall but that might not benefit us
sadly, it's not. turn it down by an order of ten thousand and you're golden i don't think anyone understands the furore around sterling.
As much as I hate the **** and he was **** at the euros he's started the season in good form he's looking decent.
My only problem- Owenesque injury which would defoe stall us - these unlikely things happen at bad times
Get picked for England - Transfer window closes - get injured playing for England - SAFC not able to buy a replacement. Worse case scenario.
Although for his own enjoyment I'd like to see Defoe picked, as he seems like he'd want to play, and he deserves it, from a Sunderland point of view I'd much rather that he wasn't. Also, from SA's perspective, we should be building towards a team that can compete in 2 years, and 4 years time, not just today, so for me it's a no.
What it is with Sam is he'll want experience in during qualifying to mentor the younger ones. Expect a Terry recall too. Carrick will be about too. Doesn't mean they'll be in Sam's plans for the world cup, but they can help what's going to be a young England squad find their footing as a team. Both on the pitch but mostly on the training ground. There's method in his madness, there's method in everything the man does.
