What are you on about?! What hypothetical scenarios? He had the opportunity to make a positive statement about his intent to try his hardest and he didn't take it. Instead, he sounded like he was already defeated. We all know we're going to be in a relegation fight, especially after going backwards since the end of last season, but when you're in that position you have to put a positive spin on things. If was a player coming to play against Sunderland now I'd be thinking "well this lot are already beaten". If you don't understand the psychological and motivational benefits of positive language that's not my problem.

Think would have come off worse he'd bullshitted his way through an interview of false positives. False positives only pander to those how want to believe everything is ok. Short doesn't want to spend imo, so his team manager is telling him things he wants hear isn't very wise imo. Don't see the problem. Di Canio, Poyet, Dick, and Sam were all frank and correct. Not good enough, we're in for a relegation fight and we were. We weren't in that mess because they said it, we were in it because we lacked strength and depth imo.

This isn't doom mongering, just crediting our past managers for correctly telling it how it is. It's clear it's on the cards again. Why pretend when it's so blatant?

I'm not saying he has to say anything that isn't accurate. But he could, by saying things slightly differently, indicate more determination. I've never been a massive Allardyce fan but I reckon he could have conducted the same interview, said more or less the same thing, and given off a different impression. To be fair though, Moyes has always been a dour, miserable sod.

See, I bet this stems from your personal perceptions of the manager's personality which is fair do's fella, just the way the human mind works. I don't mind Moyes as a person, he not exactly charismatic but he doesn't irritate me either. So his comments didn't seem bad to me. Just straight talking. I like that in a manager. Nowt worse than garnishing a bad situation with bullshit. That would irritate me.

Oh yeah, no doubt it does! The thing is, I've been happy with the performances under him and I'm pleased with him bringing throuh the youngsters. I think on the technical side of things he's probably great. But those comments just made me shake my head in disbelief. It just sounds like he has no hope to me. But then, unlike a lot on here, Paolo di Canio is the kind of character that I'd run through walls for if I was player!

Edit: not that I share Di Canio's political beliefs, just to be clear!

Me too. I liked the bloke as a person. Most didn't and god did they let that be heard.

Moyes is alright with me, bit vanilla and if I'm honest, I do like a manager with character. But needs must and he was the best available given our circumstances. Baffled with the Khazri situation though.

I don't think Moyes would inspire me but I can respect other aspects of his abilities. The bloke I'd most like is Slaven Bilic.
The Khazri thing is worrying. I hope that gets resolved soon.

What I can't understand is did Short Front up with Moyes over what transfer funds were going to be available too him.
Were all assuming there is a limit moneywise being put on the spending, but surely Moyes must have had his own ideas of what he thought was acceptable.
I can't imagine him coming if he had an inkling of how hard this window was going to be.
We won't know what is going on behind the scenes, but I can't believe having got Moyes at the fifth attempt that Short would hamstring him in his transfer dealings.
Is it remotely possible that we have been after decent signings and for whatever reason we just can't get them through the door.
Its a bit of a mystery too me thinking about it logically.

You don't have to have witnessed a teamtalk by a premier league manager in order to know what you find motivational. You can find motivational speakers in all walks of life.

You're right, it makes no logical sense and we won't know whether there was any logic applied to the process until the window closes. And maybe not even then. The only other answer is, Short has briefed Moyes to bring the youngsters through. Maybe this is why he's wanted him all this time; he thinks he's the man to run the club on a minimal outlay.

See I liked some of di danios stuff but he seemed to blame the players every time we lost and himself every time we won! I don't find that motivational. I find it the opposite. If I was a player I'd think "why should I bother when he takes all the plaudits and I get all of the ****"?

Serious head on for two mins today.

    Lads.

Moyes hasn't said you'll be bottom 3 or 4 he's said relegation battle, how many clubs did that involve last season?

Three that went down, plus you lot, Bournemouth, Swansea, WBA, Palace.

He's just saying it looks like you'll be in the mix.

Agree, half of the premier league is in a relegation battle. Even if we had a good season by our standards there will still be a month or two where we would be hovering above the bottom 3.
