I have to ask... is 2nd in the olympics REALLY down to 380million OR like we all suspect the US and china are doping.... I deffo think its there but........ can we really say uk is 100% clean?
No one can say that none of the 67 GB medal winnders didn't "dope". I would think that one or two would have but we can say for certain there is no systematic state sponsored drug doping in GB like in Russia. Only state sponsored financial doping
yeah... those sports where... well theres shag all money you have to wonder if anyone would bother. sports like rowing, gymnastics and cycling you have to wonder at some level due to the demands. Modern pentathlon not so much.... The "skill" sports you have to wonder if its systematic but the strength and endurance events are rife surely.
US state doping, no. On an individual basis perhaps (Gatlin, Gaye etc) but thats the same for any country, can't control everyone and theres bound to be one or two rotten apples. US dominates in the medal table because of the swimming where there are a disproportionate amount of medals to the number of swimmers, so Phelps is able to win 8 golds in one meet. Nothing to do with doping, its just the US have the best Swimming programme, a long established college tradition, in the world. China, wasn't it proven in the past that China had had a doping programme, especially in the swimming? UK, bound to be suspicions by some but mostly this is sour grapes, the track cycling for example. The GB programme is designed around the Olympics and to peak every four years, other countries don't like this and don't seem to get that in terms of profile and funding the Olympics is the one GB needs to do well in. So accusations are thrown, although this is mostly about the technology used by GB. I can only think of two big name GB Olympians who served drug bans, Christie and Chambers. Nobody can claim to be 100% sure, but I wouldn't be far off it, and success can clearly be tied in to bigger funding, as the last 20 years have shown. Its just not the British way, we're a country thats used to celebrating 4th.
I heard a LOT about us organised doping but then there was that marion jones stuff... I think its very dodgy there. there was ignoring of testing for sure.. is it still going on? on the swimming... yeah but i looked at the table and uk win a shed load in cycling and rowing and that really boosts us up. and gymnastics now too. it could be targeting of resources purely then. russia were 4th lads with everyone banned. 5 boxing medals.. lots of fnecing and wrestling medals. china I am 100% sure theres huge moeny going in but the pressure for results means a state run doping programme is HIGHLY likely.
US have a history of ignoring testing or covering it up, Carl Lewis, can't say it isn't still happening but the emphasis has been put more on individuals, coaches and athletes, these days. The rowing, actually GB missed their target. Also remember this is sport that is hugely ingrained in British history with a long tradition, its the one event we could always win medals in, even in 1996. The Cycling, as I mentioned the programme is designed for Olympic success and has the most money spent on it, state, Lottery and Sky all pay for it. I should think its the most expensive cycling programme in the world. Gymnastics is the easiest to go from 0-60 in the shortest space of time, as the competitors are so young. Spend dome money and boom you've got a chance of winning medals. Most female Gymnasts only get one or two Olympic games and the guys three or four at a push depending on how old they are when get to their first, Biles will be 23 by Tokyo and could well be finished by then. Wrestling is dodge as ****, as is the boxing for different reasons
The point is - Kenny earned his while Mo was still a small child. He earned his before Steve Redgrave and Bradley Wiggins et al did their heroics and were rewarded for those achievements with their knighthoods. For all the reasons Page listed above, Dalglish should have got his but it never happened, probably never will happen but he remains - in my eyes - in front of the queue before all those whose gone on to do great things and all those who will go on to do great things in the future.
Seriously boys, i tend to forget about who could be doping or not and work on the assumption if they are there and they've won they would have undergone testing. Unless theres something proven like the russian state sponsored doping, it would be wrong to accuse anyone of doping. The 4 year peaking to olympics thing sounds like rubbish to me personally, but i can understand if people cannot be bothered to be flat out training all them years in between an olympics. As for chinese state sponsored doping, they must be pretty bad, only 1 gold in the swimming . Normally all our medals come from diving, table tennis and badminton and a few in athletics. Maybe doping in weightlifting, we do win lots of golds there. Maybe cause we have more short/not heavy people so we can make them weight categories .
Didn't the GB cycling coach also refute the whole disappear between Olympics thing anyway: Iain Dier say GB has won 12 world titles since 2012? He seems to point at the times the other teams were posting compared to their times in the world's etc and they were just not as good at Rio.
The history of the chinese sportsmen and women in the Olympics is quite interesting. We remember a brief period in the not so distant when women's long distance running was dominated by the chinese. And I mean dominated in the literal meaning of the word. The winner and their co- runners will beat the other runners by half a lap! and a chinese 1,2, 3 was not uncommon. And that period just disappeared as suddenly as it had appeared. We also had swimming domination by some chinese female swimmers. I recall a chinese swimmer who actually slowed down in the final lap so as not to beat her nearest rival by more than one lap. Again that period in swimming is no longer with us. So Bobby, yes there is no evidence there has been any chinese doping in these games but the previous performances in swimming and long distance running were amazing to say the least. AND to be fair, with China's population and state support, a 2nd or 1st place at the Olympics shouldn't surprise.
Some **** on LinkedIn earlier saying that if manchester was a country, it'd have finished in 4th place in the medal table Dickhead
I always love comments like "wow, you speak almost fluent English" or "how you learn to speak English so good." "say something in your native tongue".
The Chinese Swimming doping was for Sydney and Beijing and was discovered afterwards, hence why there's been a decline in Chinese swimming golds. Badminton and Table Tennis are strong for China as they have professional leagues and are where China focuses the effort. Weightlifting is dodge as **** for everyone, not just China (not saying China are doping in Weightlifting), think there have been more doping bans in WL than any other (other than maybe swimming). Peaking for every 4 years isn't rubbish, its about peak physical and mental condition being right at the perfect moment. Sport is no longer just about luck and talent, its a science. In the rowing they claim it takes at least 4 years to create a gold medal, which is why they will start preparing for Tokyo in the next couple of months, putting the teams together and training them. Training doesn't happen over night it takes time and when you've got a 4 year time table, you're going to take all 4 of those years to make sure ready at that time.
I'd bet well over 50% of the atheletes at the olympics are drugged up. Why wouldn't they be? There isn't a strong incentive not to be. A slap on the wrist maybe miss one tournament and then you're back.
A Chinese swimmer has already tested positive at Rio Even though you still have your British accent do you find yourself using the US equivalent word, for instance, at home do you say faucet?
Since we injected money into Olympic sport after Athens we've done well, which is not a coincidence. If the likes of Cycling are given tons of Lottery money to do well at the Olympics then I'd imagine we focus our effort and finances on that instead of World Championships etc. Thus why other countries are confused as to why we're doing so well when we've been bang average the last 4 years since London.
You'd lose. I'd prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt. If they have been tested many times and yet been found to be clean, then we shouldn't keep casting doubt. When there is a question mark about the testing itself e.g the turks who couldn't be found before their tests or had an "accident" or missing tests 3 times etc, then there is something going on. I would say a small minority are unclean. I am a sceptic as far as the sports people are concerned. When performances come out of the blue you HAVE to wonder. There was this irish swimmer called Smith who had been swiming for years and had been 5th or 6th at international meetings. Then at the Olympics she came first and close to the world record. She was found positive and her husband was a shot putter who had been banned for doping.
Depends on the word and who I am talking with. With people I don't know well I will use American words sometimes. People who I know I stick to British words because they feel more natural to me (and I figure people will adapt). I will always call petrol "petrol" regardless of situation. However, to an American I don't know well I might say "Trash" or "Garbage" instead of "rubbish". "Faucet" is one of those words I never use. Americans understand the word "tap". Certain words that are spelt the same but pronounced differently like "vite-a-min", "leather (for the word lever)", or "vay-se" I will never say. Even if I have to repeat myself 10 times I refuse to mutilate those words so that I'm understood.
How many times had Lance been tested clean? There are lots of things tests can't detect. Is the testosterone level natural or added? What about the high red blood cell count? I wish I could believe it's all natural but I highly doubt it is.
