I'm not sorry he moved on and don't mind saying it. He was a big lump and very good at having things bounce of him but he was not the magic ingredient in our success sauce.

 

He was far more effective than you think he was.

 

That's where I disagree, though. The statement of intent comes when we say no to all of the incoming bids, and we go a summer without selling multiple top players. If they achieve that, they will deserve and receive plaudits. But right now, while the new deals are a good thing regardless, they're really just hope that we'll lay down the gauntlet at a later date.

And "oh well, they'll leave when they want" has generally been the refrain of the opposite side, when it became clear that another player was being sold. Hopefully we'll now see how we approach things when we hold the cards. .

I do love it when someone manifests concretely. And I love a dodgy foreign translation....means it must be true.

 

Unless we're going to sign someone like Messi, if they are coming from abroad it's likely they will all be unknown to me. I just hope for the best as even reading views on here I'm none the wiser whether they are any good!

 

Never, ever by me. I always said (can't find the exact post now but also specifically remember you agreeing with it - such a rare occurrence that it becomes memorable!) that we would miss, above all, his fantastic ability to hold onto the ball when pressured by 2 or 3 players. To me, that's the definition of skill, not doing 26 stepovers. He always brought himself time and against teams like Watford where they absolutely crowded the midfield, he would have been invaluable.

Would love to see him replaced like-for-like.

Can I just say one thing early regarding Stanciu. As Schad rightly mentioned, he could take a little bit of time to get up to speed...at least on here can we give him that time - we'll leave the "he's another bloody Juanmi" posts to SaintsWeb cos the kid has bucket loads of talent.

 

I don't know these players from Adam....and I suspect neither do most people with an opinion. My view is that they become great (in my eyes) as soon as they pull on the red and white....and it takes a long time for me to change my mind (despite evidence piling up) as I always remain convinced that they just need to settle in, get used to the PL, become fitter (delete as applicable). I am just waiting to love....come on, Uncle Les, give me some objects for my affection.

When we actually sign someone most of us will be dancing on the ceiling. Right now I'd get excited about signing a new deal for half time oranges.

 

Come on! We have signed two players in just over 400 pages - 200 hundred pages per player is the average. So 10 pages means we might had gotten at best a 'toe-hold' never mind a whole player - sorry but I could not resist the pun !!

 

Exactly, they are great when they sign and must not be criticised despite their errors. When they try to escape they have always been rubbish and are dead to me.

To be honest i very rarely get excited over any Saints signing, purely because 99% of the time i have never heard of any of them.
